Doune, Highland: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With call-out DPF cleaning, we drive out to the vehicle. No body shop, no filter leaving. A technician comes to your place across Doune, treats the diesel particulate filter in place, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.
Nobody leaves until the price is agreed over the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
If the light is showing and the motor is short of power, this page is for you. That is how most owners arrive here.
DPF light on? What happens next
First thing: it is not necessarily the filter. That light can follow a number of faults, not only one, so the visit begins with a diagnostic and not with treatment.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then matters.
- A long constant run may yet be enough, provided the light is amber and the car runs as normal. Costs zero, so attempt that before ringing.
- Motor already dropped into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not shift it now.
- Stop arranging long drives and get it checked if the interior stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you press on.
What the vehicle has been showing you
By the time the light arrives, things have generally been slipping for weeks. It is late news:
- power dropping away, above all climbing uphill
- you notice the revs never reach where they always went
- worse fuel consumption
- stop/start without a word bowing out
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell inside
Alone, none of that is proof. With the light, it is a fair bet the filter is full.
Clogged diesel particulate filters near Doune, and the cause
The day-to-day driving that belongs to a rural hamlet like Doune is the least kind type for a DPF. A regeneration wants long enough and heat, and has not much: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on A837 at half eight, not on ten minutes to the local shops, and not on the dash to Lairg. Soot that should burn off builds up instead.
Geography does not assist either. The M90 is over 50 miles from Doune and Inverness is under 50 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way regularly, entire weeks go by without the long unbroken run that could empty the filter alone.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer run
Limp mode is the motor looking after itself. Power is capped, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter requires can not complete — which is the real catch, because a long drive works by starting that regeneration.
The common advice — get it up the motorway — is good, right until it is not. In limp mode you are past that line: treatment is what will work, not more miles.
DPF cleaning at the motor round Doune
On your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the car can wait for a couple of hours: the job is done with the filter yet fitted on, which is the part most owners do not anticipate.
First a diagnostic. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a figure, the sensors, the glow plugs, the related hardware — all of it logged before a thing is started.
Then the cleaning. A cleaning solution goes in through the entry point on that car and expands inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to take doing twice.
A regeneration comes next, burning off what the clean has loosened. If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Doune; if not, statically where the car waits, with the running data verified once done.
Then a second diagnostic, proving the change, putting out the warning light and noting anything still logged. Both read-outs are emailed, so the before and after figures are recorded.
Where a clean is not the fix
Cleaning answers one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- sensors, pressure or temperature, showing a block that is not real
- an EGR valve held open
- an AdBlue system fault
- faulty glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever completes
- turbo problems, with oil reaching the filter
Which is why the diagnostic goes first. Where one of those turns out to be the fault, you find out about it up front rather than once the money has left altogether.
Two things more worth bearing in mind. Having the filter gutted is not a remedy — a vehicle without a working DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your existing filter is treated in place and put back into use.
The price of DPF cleaning in Doune
A clean starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.
Once we are told what you run, and about what the filter will take, the figure gets agreed on the phone. A single price for every job would not be honest. Where you are matters as much as what you own: Doune itself, Rosehall nearby, or otherwise out in the IV postcode area.
If the diagnostic writes cleaning out, there is no charge to pay for it. You even so pay that charge: someone travelled, did the diagnostic and gave you the advice.
The job carries a 30-day warranty including aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to Doune if the light comes back inside that time.
Daz did a fantastic job, even completing the work in the dark, has been very helpful with explaining what needs to be done to make sure my vehicle doesn't fail.
From my desperate phonecall to Zolton showing up was about 1 hour!! The service was quick, friendly and efficient. Zolton clearly has a passion for cars which shone through. He was a really nice guy and explained each step well. The result is a success.
Just had James to see to my car, great guy, and really a credit to Dpf Fixers. A go to company. A go to Guy.
The vehicles we clean and the patch we take in round Doune
The filter is cleaned on the vehicle on all of them: cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is moved anywhere.
The same round that has technicians on A837 most weeks picks up Doune, Rosehall, Mid Altass and the places beyond Lairg. Further out through Highland is still worth ringing about — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that settles between this day and the next.

Things Doune drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough alone?
- Sometimes, if you catch it early and the car has not slipped into limp mode. Ten minutes to the local shops and back will not do it; motorway speed, kept for a while, will.
- The visit takes how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily blocked filter can need a second clean, which lengthens that.
- What does it cost across Doune?
- The call-out charge takes in the visit, the scan and the advice; treatment itself starts from £299. Pricing is done by phone, since what you drive and where you sit both shift the figure.
- Have I got to be there?
- No. The motor requires a spot to wait for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. The regeneration can be done as a supervised drive if you would sooner come along.
- When can someone come to Doune?
- Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is typical. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is open across the IV area.
- Is the filter removed from the car?
- It is cleaned where it sits, on the on-site service. Getting a filter off or bolting one back on count as anything a job we do either way.
- And if the light returns?
- Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Doune.
