Your DPF light is lit — what now?
First thing: it is not automatically the unit. Cleaning is not where a visit starts. A diagnostic is — several faults register as the same light.

- Motor yet driving normally on an amber light — try a long steady run first. It costs nothing at all and often shifts the filter without a visit.
- A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has now closed.

What the vehicle has been showing you
Late news, the light. The symptoms generally grow for some time before it appears:
- going uphill, the power falls off
- you see the revs never reach where they once went
- consumption that is worse than before
- stop/start quietly giving up
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in there
Alone, none of that is conclusive. The light alongside them indicates a loaded filter.
Why diesel particulate filters choke around Dole
Dole is a rural hamlet, and the day-to-day driving that comes with one is the poorest sort for a DPF. DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is swapped: the filter you have is cleaned where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it gutted a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth knowing.
