Mobile DPF Cleaning across Dockray, Cumbria
With mobile DPF cleaning, we come to the car. The engineer arrives at your door over in Dockray and starts. The diesel particulate filter is treated on the car, a DPF regeneration follows, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
Nobody leaves until the figure is fixed by the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
If the light is showing and the car is down on power, this page is for you. That is how most owners arrive here.
The DPF light is on. What now?
First thing: it is not necessarily the DPF. A diagnostic goes before all cleaning, because that same dash light has a number of candidate faults behind it.
It counts what you get with the motor between now and the visit.
- Worth a go before you book anything: amber light, motor driving fine, just one constant run, no cost.
- Motor already fallen into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not touch it now.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under the throttle — stop arranging long drives and get it checked.
Signs the car has been showing you
By the time the light appears, things have normally been deteriorating for a while. It is late news:
- pulling uphill, the power falls off
- revs that will not rise the way they always did
- fuel economy going worse
- quietly, the stop/start gives up
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in there
None of that is evidence alone. It is a fair bet the filter is blocked once the light is showing too.
Why diesel particulate filters choke around Dockray
Dockray is a rural hamlet, and the motoring that belongs to one is the worst kind for a DPF. Look at a normal week: Patterdale CofE Primary School and home, Park Brow at a crawl before nine, a quick trip to the local shops, a run to Penrith. Not much there runs long enough or gets hot enough to complete a regeneration. The unburnt soot collects rather than burning off.
Except when you have a regular reason to get out to the M6, under 10 miles from Dockray, or out to Carlisle under 25 miles away, weeks slip past without a sustained drive. Geography is no help.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
What limp mode amounts to is the vehicle defending itself. A proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode rules out: power limited, revs held down, no regeneration possible.
Good advice, that motorway run — up until the day it is not. The filter needs a clean rather than driving once the car has slipped into limp mode.
DPF cleaning at the motor across Dockray
On your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the vehicle can wait for a few hours: the job is done with the filter still fixed on, which is the detail most owners do not anticipate.
Nothing is cleaned until other faults are eliminated. That means a scan first: real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by weight, and a review of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and associated components.
Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never move are freed next, by a cleaning solution fed through the entry point on that motor, which opens out inside the filter. Heavily clogged filters sometimes take a second pass.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean freed. That is a monitored drive out of Dockray if you are there, or a static regeneration where the motor waits, with the real-time data verified once done.
Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change confirmed, the light put out, anything still open logged. Both read-outs reach you by email, so the numbers are on record.
When a DPF clean is not the fix
One thing is what a clean answers — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- temperature or pressure sensors reporting a restriction that is not there
- an EGR valve jammed open
- a fault in the AdBlue system
- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration starting at all
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
The first scan is there for just that. Where it is found to be one of those, you are warned before any work starts rather than after you have settled up for it.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is exchanged: the filter you have is cleared where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it hollowed out a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth knowing.
The price of DPF cleaning in Dockray
The cleaning starts from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that goes with it.
No single flat rate would be truthful, so the figure is agreed over the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. Two things move it: what you drive, and where you are — Dockray itself, across at Ulcat Row, or further out in the CA postcode area.
If the diagnostic writes cleaning out, there is nothing to pay for it. What even so stands is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the diagnostic was done and the advice was passed on.
A 30-day warranty covers aftercare on the clean, and that includes an engineer coming back out to Dockray if the light comes back inside the period.

Where we travel near Dockray, and what we clean
One mobile service covers private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is done in place rather than moved anywhere.
Most weeks there is already someone on Park Brow, so Dockray hardly ever means a special trip, and Ulcat Row, Sandwick and the spots past Longthwaite are on the way. Ring anyway from farther out across Cumbria. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the date you are offered comes down to the calendar rather than how far away you are.

Things Dockray drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run sort it?
- It may, provided you get it in time and limp mode has not begun. It takes a sustained run at motorway speed, not five minutes flat to the local shops and back.
- The visit takes how long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A severely clogged filter can require a second clean, which adds to that.
- What does it come to across Dockray?
- Starting from £299, with a charge for coming out that takes in the scan and advice on what to do next. Pricing is done by phone, since what you drive and where you live both change the figure.
- Do I have to be there?
- You do not need to stand with it — the vehicle just wants somewhere to wait for a couple of hours. The regeneration can be carried out as a supervised drive if you would prefer to ride along.
- Coming to Dockray — how soon?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the calendar. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is open across the CA area.
- The filter — does it leave the vehicle?
- Not on the mobile service — it is done where it is. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
- And if the light reappears?
- An engineer comes back out to Dockray — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
