Dickon Hills, Lincolnshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With mobile DPF cleaning, we travel to the car. Your vehicle is not taken off and the filter doesn't leave it. An engineer turns up at your place across Dickon Hills, treats the diesel particulate filter still on the car and performs a DPF regeneration.
You'll be given a price by phone before anyone departs, the clean opening from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.
Most owners find us with the light already on, and the motor low on power. That is exactly what this page is meant for.
DPF light on? What to do
Not the unit, always. Opening thing to say. That light can follow plenty of faults, not merely one, so the visit starts with a scan and not with cleaning.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then makes a difference.
- Amber light, motor still driving fine — a long even run can still sort it on its own. Costs zero, and worth a try before you call anything.
- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has already closed.
- Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under the throttle — stop arranging long drives and get it seen to.
Signs the vehicle has been sending you
Late news, the light. The symptoms tend to grow for some time before it appears:
- less power, above all climbing uphill
- you notice the revs stop short of where they always went
- worse fuel economy
- the stop/start without a word packing in
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell inside
None of that is conclusive alone. Next to the light beside them, the filter is a fair bet.
Why diesel particulate filters block around Dickon Hills
Dickon Hills is a small village, and the driving that belongs to one is the poorest sort for a DPF. The school run to Friskney All Saints Church of England Primary School, Gipsy Drove at a halt at the morning rush, ten minutes to Co-op Food, the dash to Thorpe Culvert — not one bit of it lasts long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. The unburnt soot collects rather than burning away.
Unless you have a routine cause to drive out to the M180, under 50 miles from Dickon Hills, or across to Lincoln under 50 miles away, whole weeks slip past without a long steady drive. Geography is no help.
Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode amounts to. A long drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode prevents: power held down, revs kept low, no regeneration available.
The common advice — run it up the motorway — is sound, until it is not. Beyond that stage — limp mode — driving will not be enough, and the filter requires a clean.
Call-out DPF cleaning where the car stands across Dickon Hills
The filter does not budge. That is the bit most drivers do not see coming: the job is done with the DPF still fixed to the vehicle, on your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the car can wait for a while.
First a scan. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a figure, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the associated components — all of it taken before a thing is started.
Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never budge are lifted after that, by a cleaning fluid put through the entry point on that vehicle, which opens out inside the filter. Where the filter is heavily blocked, expect a second pass.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean loosened. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Dickon Hills, with you present, or it runs where the vehicle stands and the live data is read afterwards.
Both sets of figures are sent by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second check is what verifies the change, resets the light and notes whatever is still showing.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
Only one fault is fixed by treatment: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does little for:
- the wrong figure from a temperature or pressure sensor
- an EGR valve held open
- an AdBlue system failure
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration running at all
- the turbo pushing oil into the filter
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's purpose. You are warned before all work gets going, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.
Two things more worth noting. Getting the filter hollowed out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a working DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your original filter is treated in place and put back into use.
DPF cleaning charges around Dickon Hills
Cleaning opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.
Once we know what you drive, and roughly what the filter will want, the number gets fixed by phone. A single price for every job would not be straight. Two separate things move it: what you run, and where you are — Dickon Hills itself, out at Small End, or otherwise out across the PE postcode area.
Cleaning that will not work is not treatment you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. The call-out charge still stands, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have been done.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer heads back to Dickon Hills.
Daz was very helpful in diagnosing my problem which turned out to be the turbo system, and gave me advice way beyond the call of duty. A good honest service that was very helpful.
Fast, efficient and friendly service. Not cheap, but a lot cheaper than the alternative of fitting a new DPF! Thanks.
Had a clean. Didn't fix problem. Came back out. Still didn't fix the problem. Wast of time and £400.
What we clean, and how far we travel round Dickon Hills
The one mobile service takes in cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is done where it sits rather than moved anywhere.
The same trip that has technicians on Gipsy Drove most weeks picks up Dickon Hills, Small End, Wrangle Bank and the places beyond Friskney. Farther out through Lincolnshire is even so worth a call — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that settles between this day and the next.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning in Dickon Hills
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- Sometimes, if you get it in time and the motor has not dropped into limp mode. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it takes — not ten minutes flat to Co-op Food and back.
- How long does the visit take?
- Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean extending that where the filter is badly clogged.
- How much does it cost around Dickon Hills?
- Cleaning begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the check and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why settling it happens by phone.
- Must I be around in person?
- No. The car requires somewhere to wait for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. Come along if you like, and the regeneration turns into a watched drive.
- Coming to Dickon Hills — how soon?
- Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is typical. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the PE area has available.
- Will the filter be lifted off?
- Not on the call-out service — it is done where it stands. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer returning to Dickon Hills.
