Symptoms have normally been growing for some time before the light ever appears. Belated news, in other words:
- power tailing off, above all climbing uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they always did
- consumption that is worse than it used to be
- a stop/start that has quietly bowed out
- the interior stinking of diesel, or smoke when you press on
None of that is conclusive alone. Next to the light, it is a fair guess the filter is full.
Blocked diesel particulate filters around Devoran, and the cause

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted fails its MOT, and driving it is against the law, so that is no fix. What gets looked up as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your existing filter is cleared in place and goes back into use.
