Mobile DPF Cleaning in Dell and Highland

Sorting the DPF takes place at the vehicle, not at a body shop. Your car is not taken anywhere and the filter doesn't come off. A technician turns up at your place over in Dell, clears the diesel particulate filter on the vehicle and runs a DPF regeneration.

Nobody sets off until the figure is fixed by the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.

Most drivers find us with the light showing, and the motor low on power. That is the situation this page is meant for.

Your DPF light is showing — what next?

First thing: it is not necessarily the DPF. A diagnostic goes before all treatment, because that same dashboard light has plenty of possible faults behind it.

It counts what you get with the motor between now and the visit.

  • A long steady run may yet be enough, provided the light is amber and the car goes fine. Costs nothing at all, so attempt that before ringing.
  • Motor already gone into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not shift it now.
  • A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the point to stop booking long drives and ring.

What the car has been telling you

By the time the light shows, things have normally been going wrong for weeks. It is belated news:

  • tailing off on power, especially uphill
  • revs that will not climb the way they once did
  • the fuel use is down
  • quietly, the stop/start gives up
  • diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox

Any one of those, taken alone, is not proof. Next to the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is blocked.

The reason diesel particulate filters clog round Dell

For a DPF, the least kind use is the kind you find in an area such as Dell. A regeneration needs the time and heat, and gets neither: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on B970 at the morning rush, not on five minutes to Tesco, and not on the run to Aviemore. Instead of burning away, the soot banks up.

Geography does not help either. The M90 is over 50 miles from Dell and Inverness is under 50 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way often, weeks go by without the long steady run that could empty the filter by itself.

Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration

What limp mode amounts to is the motor protecting itself. The real difficulty is that a proper drive works by setting off a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not climb and power is held down.

Taking it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it holds up to a limit. Beyond that stage — limp mode — road work will not do it, and the filter requires treatment.

Call-out DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands across Dell

The filter does not come off. That is the part most people do not anticipate: the job takes place with the DPF even now fitted to the vehicle, on your front, in a work car park, anywhere the vehicle can wait for a few hours.

The ECU is interrogated first, reporting soot load by percentage and by actual weight, along with a review of sensor readings, glow plugs and related hardware, so nothing is touched while another fault is still possible.

Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never move are lifted next, by a cleaning solution put through the access port on that car, which spreads inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to require doing twice.

A regeneration comes next, clearing what the clean has freed. That is a monitored drive out of Dell if you are along, or a static regeneration where the motor waits, with the running data verified after.

Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change confirmed, the light cleared, anything still outstanding written down. Both reports arrive with you by email, so the numbers are on record.

Where treatment is not the answer

One thing is what cleaning fixes — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does nothing for:

  • sensors, temperature or pressure, reporting a block that is not real
  • a failed EGR valve
  • AdBlue system problems
  • a regeneration that simply never starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • oil coming through the filter from a failing turbo

That is what the first check is for. When one of those is the fault, you hear about it up front rather than once the money has left for good.

Two things more worth bearing in mind. Leaving the filter hollowed out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a working DPF fails its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your original filter is cleared in place and sent back into use.

What DPF cleaning costs in Dell

Any visit carries a call-out charge — coming out to you, taking the booking, doing the diagnostic and offering the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.

The figure is agreed on the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be straight. What you run and where you are both shift it: Dell itself, across at Inverdruie, or otherwise out across the PH postcode area.

Treatment that will not do it is not a clean you pay for, and the scan is what says so. Because the visit, the check and the advice have been done, the call-out charge even so stands.

Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer comes back to Dell.

Vehicles we clean, and where we reach round Dell

The filter is done on the vehicle on all of them: private cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is carried anywhere.

The same trip that keeps our engineers on B970 most weeks covers Dell, Inverdruie, Aviemore and the places beyond Boat of Garten. Coverage reaches UK-wide, so even further out across Highland is still worth a phone call, and what settles between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning around Dell

Will a long drive clear it?
Sometimes, if you get it early enough and the vehicle has not slipped into limp mode. That calls for motorway speed for a sustained run, rather than a short trip to Tesco.
How long does the visit take?
Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean extending that where the filter is badly loaded.
How much does it cost across Dell?
The call-out charge pays for the visit, the check and the advice; the clean itself opens from £299. Pricing is done by phone, since what you run and where you are both shift the figure.
Is it essential for me to be around?
You need not stand with it — the vehicle just wants somewhere to wait for a couple of hours. Choosing to be there is no problem: the regeneration then goes out on the move, monitored.
Coming to Dell — how soon?
That comes down to the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the PH area has free.
Is the filter removed from the motor?
It is cleaned where it sits, on the call-out service. Getting a filter off or fitting one back on amount to anything something we do either way.
Suppose the light comes back?
An engineer travels back out to Dell — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
