Mobile DPF Cleaning for Dean, Devon
With call-out DPF cleaning, we drive out to the vehicle. No garage, no filter going anywhere. An engineer comes to your place over in Dean, clears the diesel particulate filter where it is, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.
Nobody leaves until the figure is settled over the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
Most owners find us with the light already on, and the vehicle low on power. That is the position this page is aimed at.
What to check when the DPF light is on
It may not be the filter whatsoever. That is the opening thing. A diagnostic happens before any work, because that same dashboard light has several possible faults behind it.
The motoring you get in the meantime matters. That is the other thing.
- Vehicle yet driving as normal on an amber light — attempt a long constant run first. It costs nothing and frequently sorts the filter without help.
- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has by then shut.
- Stop planning long drives and get it seen to if the car stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you press on.
The motor has been showing you already
Belated news, the light. The symptoms usually build for weeks before it appears:
- less power, particularly climbing uphill
- revs that will not pull the way they used to
- the fuel consumption is poorer
- the stop/start without a word bowing out
- the car stinking of diesel, or smoke when you press on
None of that is conclusive alone. With the light with them, the filter is a fair guess.
Why diesel particulate filters clog near Dean
Dean is a rural hamlet, and the driving that comes with one is the least kind sort for a DPF. Look at an ordinary week: Kentisbury Primary School and home again, Long Lane at a standstill before nine, a short hop to Tesco, a run to Barnstaple. None of it there lasts long enough or gets hot enough to complete a regeneration. What should burn off stays put.
Neither is a long way from Dean: under 50 miles to the M4, under 50 miles to Swansea. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the journey that would empty a filter never gets made.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode ends it
It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode means. The entire difficulty is that a proper drive works by starting a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not pull and power is capped.
The common advice — take it up the motorway — is sensible, until it is not. The filter wants a clean rather than driving once the car has gone into limp mode.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle across Dean
On your driveway, in a work car park, any place the motor can stand for a couple of hours: the job happens with the filter yet bolted on, which is the bit most owners do not expect.
The ECU is taken first, showing soot load by percentage and by mass, along with a look over of sensors, glow plugs and related parts, so nothing is cleaned while another fault is still open.
Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never shift are freed next, by a cleaning fluid put through the access port on that car, which opens out inside the filter. A second pass is sometimes required on severely blocked filters.
What the clean has lifted is then burned off by a regeneration. Stay with the vehicle and it becomes a monitored drive out of Dean. Drop it and the regeneration runs statically, with live data checked once it is done.
Then a second check, proving the change, resetting the warning light and noting anything still showing. Both reports are sent over, so the before and after figures are on record.
The faults a DPF clean cannot fix
Cleaning answers one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- pressure or temperature sensors reporting a restriction that is not there
- a jammed EGR valve
- AdBlue system failures
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration running at all
- turbo failure, with oil getting into the filter
The first diagnostic is there for precisely that. You are warned before all work begins, not after you have settled up, should it turns out to be one of those.
Hollowing the filter out is not a fix: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the phrase people look up, though nothing is replaced — your existing filter is cleared in place and sent back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.
What DPF cleaning costs across Dean
A call-out charge holds whatever the outcome, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice given. The clean itself opens from £299.
Publishing a flat rate would not be honest. We settle it on the phone, once the vehicle and its expected needs are clear. What you run and where you are both change it: Dean itself, out at Blackmoor Gate, or otherwise out across the EX postcode area.
Where the check says cleaning will not work, you are not billed for cleaning. Because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have happened, the call-out charge nonetheless holds.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer heads back to Dean.
Arrived at my address and carried out all work needed in a very professional manner, informing me at every stage what he was doing, he respected my property and vehicle all the way through, would highly recommended this employee and this company, kind regards Alan and Susan Rhodes.
Jamie was a star gave me an ETA and text well before appointment time. Arrived and got straight to work. Listed a few faults and explained clearly once I have these fixes they will come back and do the regen for free. Highly recommended.
Really helpful on the phone call, didn't have to wait long for an appointment with the engineer, then engineer was great.
What we clean, and how far we reach around Dean
A single mobile service takes in private cars, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is cleaned on the vehicle rather than carried anywhere.
Engineers are along Long Lane week in week out, so Dean is hardly ever a special trip, and the same run covers Blackmoor Gate, Bugford and the places out past Parracombe. It is the diary, not the distance, that settles whether it is this day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so phone anyway from further out around Devon.
Dean itself
Dean is a small hamlet situated on the coast of Devon, with its elevated position at 221 metres offering views out to sea. Dean sits near the villages of Kentisbury and Blackmoor Gate, and is connected to nearby Kentisbury Ford. Dean is characterized by its predominantly detached housing stock, reflecting its rural setting.
Questions Dean drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough alone?
- If you spot it early, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. Five minutes to Tesco and back will not manage it; motorway speed, sustained for some time, will.
- Does the visit run long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A severely clogged filter can take a second clean, which lengthens that.
- Cost across Dean — what is it?
- The call-out charge covers the visit, the scan and the advice; cleaning itself begins from £299. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why settling it is done by phone.
- Do I have to be there?
- No. The car wants a spot to wait for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. Preferring to be there is welcome: the regeneration then is done out on the move, monitored.
- When can someone get to Dean?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is free across the EX area.
- Will the filter be lifted off?
- Not on the mobile service — it is cleaned where it is. We will not lift filters off or bolt them back on, either way.
- And if the light comes back?
- Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Dean.
