Deal, Kent: Mobile DPF Cleaning
The vehicle stays put — on-site DPF cleaning goes to it. No garage, no filter coming off. A technician comes to your place in Deal, clears the diesel particulate filter in place, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you arrived with.
The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the number is fixed on the phone before anyone leaves.
Written for the position most callers are in: the light showing, the car struggling for power, and the job still to fix.
Your DPF light is lit — what now?
Not the filter, necessarily. Main thing to get straight. A diagnostic goes before the cleaning, because that same dash light has plenty of likely faults behind it.
It tells what you manage with the car between now and the appointment.
- Amber light, motor even now driving fine — a long constant run can yet shift it by itself. Costs nothing at all, and worth attempting before you book anything.
- A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has now closed.
- A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under the throttle, is the point to stop booking long drives and call.
What the vehicle has been warning you
By the time the light appears, things have normally been deteriorating for a while. It is last news:
- power falling off, especially climbing uphill
- the revs no longer climb the way they used to
- the fuel economy is down
- a stop/start that has meekly bowed out
- the interior reeking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
On its own, none of that is proof. The light beside them indicates a blocked filter.
Why diesel particulate filters block around Deal
The driving that belongs to a coastal town like Deal is the poorest kind for a DPF. Think about a normal week: Sandown School and back, Queen Street at a crawl before half nine, a five-minute run to Aldi, a dash to the nearest station. Not much there lasts long enough or runs hot enough to complete a regeneration. The unburnt soot builds up rather than clearing.
Save when you have a standing need to get out to the M20, under 15 miles from Deal, or out to Canterbury under 15 miles away, entire weeks pass without a sustained drive. Geography is unhelpful.
Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration
What limp mode comes down to is the car defending itself. The entire difficulty is that a long drive works by starting a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not pull and power is limited.
Taking it up the motorway is the standard advice, and it works as far as a point. The filter wants a clean rather than driving once the motor has dropped into limp mode.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is cleaned round Deal
The filter does not come off. That is the bit most owners do not expect: the job is done with the DPF yet fixed to the motor, on your driveway, in a work car park, any place the motor can stand for a while.
A scan goes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by actual weight, and a review of the sensors, glow plugs and related hardware, so other faults are eliminated before any of it is started.
Then the clean. A cleaning solution goes in through the entry point on that vehicle and expands inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move. A second pass is sometimes required on severely blocked filters.
Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean freed. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of Deal; if not, in place where the vehicle waits, with the running data read after.
Then a second scan, confirming the change, putting out the warning light and noting anything still logged. Both read-outs are sent over, so the before and after figures are recorded.
The problems a DPF clean cannot answer
Treatment answers one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- a pressure sensor showing a restriction that is not there
- an EGR valve held open
- an AdBlue system failure
- glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration running whatsoever
- a turbo passing oil through the filter
Which is why the diagnostic goes first. You are let know before any work starts, not after you have settled up, where it turns out to be one of those.
Two more worth noting. Having the filter gutted is not a fix — a vehicle without a working DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your existing filter is cleared in place and sent back into use.
The figure of DPF cleaning around Deal
Cleaning opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.
Quoting a flat rate would not be straight. We agree it on the phone, once the car and its probable needs are known. Whereabouts you are tells as much as what you drive: Deal itself, Lower Walmer close by, or further out across the CT postcode area.
Where the check says cleaning will not do it, you are not asked to pay for treatment. Because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have been done, the call-out charge still stands.
The work comes with a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Deal if the light reappears inside that window.
Great and speedy service. DPF now completely clean and running smooth. Liam who did the clean was friendly, and very informative of the process. Would recommend these guys.
Nat arrived from the company on time, was polite and explained what he was doing then just got on with it. Very efficient and well worth every penny. Nat should get a medal. Car is running fine now.
Dan came out on time, did the job perfectly and explained each step of the process clearly to me, along the way; with tips on how to prevent any future DPF cloggages. This is a reliable company, and judging by Dan, with great, reliable technicians! Thanks Dan!
The vehicles we clean and the ground we cover near Deal
The one mobile service spans private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is cleaned in place rather than moved anywhere.
Engineers are along Queen Street week in week out, so Deal is hardly ever a journey of its own, and the same run covers Lower Walmer, Sholden and the villages out past Great Mongeham. Ring anyway from farther out around Kent. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the date you are offered hangs on the diary rather than how far away you are.

Things Deal drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- It can, provided you spot it early and limp mode has not set in. Ten minutes to Aldi and back will not manage it; motorway speed, kept for some time, will.
- How long does the visit last?
- Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is badly loaded.
- How much does it run to around Deal?
- The call-out charge takes in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; the clean itself starts from £299. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why quoting is done by phone.
- Is it needed for me to be around?
- The car needs a space for two hours or so. You need not be in it. Preferring to be there is no problem: the regeneration then goes out on the road, monitored.
- Coming to Deal — how soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the diary. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the CT area has free.
- Does the filter leave the car?
- Not on the mobile service — it is cleaned where it is. We never get filters off or put them back on, in either direction.
- The light reappears — then what?
- Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Deal.
