Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Deadwater, Northumberland
With call-out DPF cleaning, we come to the motor. Your car is not taken off and the filter will not budge. A fitter arrives at your place over in Deadwater, cleans the diesel particulate filter still on the vehicle and runs a DPF regeneration.
Nobody sets off until the figure is agreed by the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
If the light is on already and the vehicle is low on power, this page is for you. That is how most people end up here.
DPF light on? What comes next
First thing: it is not necessarily the DPF. That light can follow plenty of faults, not just one, so the visit opens with a scan and not with treatment.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then makes a difference.
- Amber light, vehicle still driving normally — a long constant run can yet clear it on its own. Costs zero, and worth trying before you book anything.
- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has by then shut.
- Stop planning long drives and get it checked if the cabin smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.
Before the light, what the motor was showing you
Symptoms have normally been mounting for some time before the light even appears. Late news, in other words:
- less power, particularly pulling uphill
- an engine whose revs will not rise like they did
- the fuel consumption is poorer
- quietly, the stop/start packs in
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the box
That is not proof by itself. Next to the light alongside them, the filter is a fair guess.
The explanation diesel particulate filters choke near Deadwater
The motoring that goes with an area like Deadwater is the least kind sort for a DPF. The school run to Kielder Primary School and Nursery, B6357 at a halt at half eight, ten minutes to the local shops, the run to the nearest station — nothing of it runs long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. The soot that should burn away banks up instead.
The map does not help either. The A74(M) is under 25 miles from Deadwater and Carlisle is under 50 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way regularly, entire weeks slip past without the long steady run that might clear the filter by itself.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode is. With output limited and the revs held, the regeneration the filter wants can never happen at all. That matters, because setting off one is just what a motorway run does.
Sound advice, that motorway run — up until the point it is not. Once the car is in limp mode you are beyond that line, and the filter needs cleaning rather than more driving.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is cleaned round Deadwater
On your drive, in a work car park, wherever the motor can wait for a few hours: the job happens with the filter even now fixed on, which is the detail most drivers do not expect.
First a check. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a mass, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the connected components — all of it logged before a thing is cleaned.
Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never shift are lifted next, by a cleaning solution passed through the access point on that car, which spreads inside the filter. Badly loaded filters sometimes require a second pass.
A regeneration comes next, burning off what the clean has freed. That is a monitored drive out of Deadwater if you are along, or a static regeneration where the vehicle waits, with the live data verified after.
Finally the scan runs again — the change proven, the light reset, anything still open logged. Both reports reach you by email, so the numbers are recorded.
The problems a DPF clean cannot answer
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing a clean cures. It will not help:
- the wrong signal from a temperature or pressure sensor
- a failed EGR valve
- an AdBlue system fault
- injectors or glow plugs that prevent a regeneration running whatsoever
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
Finding that out is the first check's job. Proving to be one of them means hearing it before the work gets going, not after settling up anything.
Gutting the filter out is not a solution: without a working DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is against the law. DPF renewal is the phrase people type in, though nothing is exchanged — your existing filter is treated in place and sent back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.
What DPF cleaning costs across Deadwater
The clean opens from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that goes with it.
The figure is fixed over the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be honest. What you run and where you are both move it: Deadwater itself, over at Kielder, or farther out within the NE postcode area.
Where the check says a clean will not do it, you are not charged for a clean. You even so pay that charge: someone travelled, carried out the diagnostic and offered you the advice.
The job comes with a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Deadwater if the light comes back inside that time.
DPF Fixer booked an engineer out within 24hrs and arrived on time, Andras was very professional, polite and most importantly cleaned my vans DPF thoroughly and got me back on the road with good aftercare advice. Will certainly use them again in the future.
Very impressed with the service. Arranged an appointment the day after I called, and kept me informed of actual time. Friendly Engineer, called Daz arrived. Talked through everything clearly and completed work quickly. Gave good and honest advice - would definitely use again. Thank you!
Excellent service provided by DPF Fixer. They checked the computer system and cleaned the catalytic converter. After they reset and took readings to show improvements. An excellent service provided. Would recommend this company.
The vehicles we clean and the ground we take in round Deadwater
Whatever it is — car, panel van, light commercial, HGV, plant, construction machinery, agricultural machine — the one on-site service stands, and the filter never leaves it.
The same trip that has engineers on B6357 most weeks picks up Deadwater, Kielder, Larriston and the villages beyond Butteryhaugh. Farther out through Northumberland is nonetheless worth ringing about — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that settles between one day and the next.
Deadwater itself
Deadwater is a small locality in Northumberland, situated on the banks of a river at an elevation of 229 metres. Deadwater lies near the border with Scotland, close to the Kielder reservoir and the Northumberland National Park. What Deadwater drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- If you get it in time, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. It takes a sustained run at motorway speed, not ten minutes or so to the local shops and back.
- Roughly how long does it take?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — heavily loaded filters sometimes take a second pass, which adds to it.
- Cost around Deadwater — what is it?
- It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the check and the advice. Quoting is done by phone, since what you run and where you sit both change the number.
- Is it needed for me to be around?
- The motor needs a space for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. The regeneration can be run as a supervised drive if you would sooner be there.
- How soon can someone get to Deadwater?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the schedule. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is free across the NE area.
- Does the filter come off the car?
- Not on the mobile service — it is treated where it is. Nor does lifting a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
- And if the light comes back?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Deadwater.
