Dalgarven, North Ayrshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

With on-site DPF cleaning, we travel to the motor. A fitter turns up at your address across Dalgarven, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the vehicle, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.

Nobody travels until the number is agreed over the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.

The light is showing and the vehicle is short of power — that is how we generally find people, and what this page is about.

The DPF light is on. What next?

It could not be the DPF in the end. That is the opening thing. A diagnostic goes before the cleaning, because that same dash light has several likely faults behind it.

It tells what you get with the car between now and the booking.

  • A long constant run may even now manage it, provided the light is amber and the motor drives as normal. Costs zero, so try that before booking.
  • Car already fallen into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not shift it now.
  • Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration — stop planning long drives and get it seen to.

What the motor has been warning you

Belated news, the light. The symptoms generally build for a while before it shows:

  • less power, above all climbing uphill
  • you find the revs never reach where they once went
  • the fuel use is down
  • quietly, the stop/start gives up
  • the cabin stinking of diesel, or smoke when you pull away

None of that is proof alone. It is a fair bet the filter is loaded once the light is showing too.

The reason diesel particulate filters choke round Dalgarven

Dalgarven is a rural hamlet, and the motoring that comes with one is the least kind kind for a DPF. The school run to the local primary school, A737 at a halt at half past eight, a few minutes to Co-op Food, the run to Kilwinning — none of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. Unburnt soot that should burn away banks up instead.

The M77 sits under 15 miles from Dalgarven, Glasgow under 25 miles out, and unless something carries you out that way often, full weeks pass without the sustained run that empties a DPF. Geography does not assist.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out

It is self-defence: that is all limp mode means. With power capped and the revs held, the regeneration the filter requires can never run at all. That matters, because starting one is exactly what a motorway run does.

Sound advice, that motorway run — right up until the moment it is not. The filter wants treatment rather than driving once the motor has gone into limp mode.

Cleaning a clogged diesel particulate filter in Dalgarven, North Ayrshire

Where the motor stands is where the DPF is cleaned across Dalgarven

The filter does not leave it. That is the bit most owners do not anticipate: the job happens with the DPF even now fitted to the car, on your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the vehicle can stand for a while.

A scan goes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by mass, and a look over of the sensor readings, glow plugs and related hardware, so other faults are eliminated before a thing is touched.

A cleaning solution next is fed in through the access port on that motor, opening out inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to take doing twice.

Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean loosened. If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Dalgarven; if not, statically where the motor sits, with the live data read once done.

Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change proven, the light put out, anything still showing logged. Both read-outs reach you by email, so the numbers are kept.

Where treatment is not the fix

Only one fault is cured by cleaning: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does no good for:

  • sensors, pressure or temperature, reporting a blockage that is not real
  • an EGR valve jammed open
  • a problem in the AdBlue system
  • worn glow plugs or injectors, so never a regeneration ever runs
  • the turbo passing oil into the filter

That is what the first diagnostic is for. When it proves to be one of those, you are let know before any work begins rather than after you have handed over a penny.

Two more worth noting. Leaving the filter hollowed out is not a solution — a vehicle without a functioning DPF fails its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use.

What DPF cleaning costs in Dalgarven

A call-out charge holds whatever happens, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice passed on. The clean itself starts from £299.

The price is agreed by the phone, once we know the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. No flat rate could be truthful. The car moves it, and so does the location — Dalgarven, Blairland, or a spot further out in the KA postcode area.

Where the scan says treatment will not work, you are not asked to pay for cleaning. What even so holds is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the diagnostic was run and the advice was offered.

Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer heads back to Dalgarven.

A vehicle having its DPF treated across Dalgarven

Igor came out and spotted the issue as soon as he lifted the bonnet, lovely knowledgeable lad. Couldn't fault the company in any way. Booking was efficient, phone call to say when arriving, aftercare brilliant too.

Had one of there reps come to my address and work on my car was very helpful and sorted the problem would recommend them to anyone.

Tam G.

Zoltan arrived as expected and got on with job, no time wasting. Whatever he did has worked and the fault has been rectified. A nice young man a credit to your company.

The vehicles we clean and the patch we take in around Dalgarven

The filter is treated on the vehicle on all of them: cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.

Dalgarven is hardly ever a special trip: our engineers are along A737 most weeks, and the same run takes in Blairland, Drakemyre and the places out past Kilwinning. It is the schedule, not the distance, that decides whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so ring still from farther out around North Ayrshire.

What Dalgarven drivers wonder about DPF cleaning

Can I merely take it for a long drive?
If you catch it early enough, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. That requires motorway speed for a long run, rather than a brief trip to Co-op Food.
The visit runs how long?
It is typically around 2 hours. A badly loaded filter can require a second clean, which lengthens that.
In Dalgarven, what does it come to?
The call-out charge pays for the visit, the check and the advice; cleaning itself starts from £299. We settle it on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the price.
Is it essential for me to be present?
The car needs a space for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. Choosing to be there is welcome: the regeneration then runs out on the road, monitored.
Can someone come to Dalgarven soon?
That depends on the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the KA area has available.
The filter — does it come away from the motor?
On the call-out service, no: the filter is done in place. Taking a filter off or bolting one back on amount to anything work we do whichever way.
And if the light reappears?
Included by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Dalgarven.
