Before the light, what the car was showing you
The light is last news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have usually been building for weeks:
- less power, especially pulling uphill
- revs that will not pull the way they always did
- fuel use getting worse
- a stop/start that has meekly given up
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under the throttle
Any one of those, taken singly, is not proof. The light with them indicates a full filter.
