Mobile DPF Cleaner

Culburnie, Highland: Mobile DPF Cleaning

With on-site DPF cleaning, we travel to the motor. An engineer arrives at your place over in Culburnie, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the motor, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.

Nobody leaves until the figure is fixed over the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.

The light is already on and the motor is short of power — that is how we generally find people, and what this page covers.

DPF light on? What happens next

The DPF is not automatically what is at fault, and that goes first. A diagnostic happens before any treatment, because that same dashboard light has a number of candidate faults behind it.

Second thing: how you drive it between now and then counts.

  • Worth a go before you call anything: amber light, car driving as normal, just one constant run, no cost.
  • Once the vehicle is in limp mode, a long run will not touch it. The window has gone.
  • Get it checked rather than driving it — diesel in the car, or smoke on the throttle, has gone past the long-run stage.

The vehicle has been warning you already

Belated news, the light. The symptoms tend to grow for weeks before it arrives:

  • power falling off, above all pulling uphill
  • an engine whose revs will not rise as they should
  • consumption that is worse than it used to be
  • stop/start without a word giving up
  • the cabin reeking of diesel, or smoke when you press on

On its own, none of that is proof. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is full.

Why diesel particulate filters clog near Culburnie

For a DPF, the worst use is the type you find in an area such as Culburnie. The school run to the local primary school, Allarburn Park at a halt at half past eight, five minutes to Co-op Food, the run to Beauly — none of it lasts long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. Unburnt soot that should clear collects instead.

The M90 stands over 50 miles from Culburnie, Inverness under 15 miles away, and unless something takes you out that way regularly, full weeks go by without the sustained run that clears a unit. Geography does not oblige.

DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode ends it

It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode is. A proper drive works by starting a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode blocks: power capped, revs kept low, no regeneration possible.

So the standard advice to take it up the motorway is sensible advice, until it is not. The filter requires treatment rather than road work once the motor has slipped into limp mode.

Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is done across Culburnie

Nothing is taken from the motor. That catches out people. The DPF sits fixed where it is and the work goes on around it, on a drive, in a works car park, anywhere it can wait for a couple of hours.

The ECU is interrogated first, showing soot load by percent and by mass, along with a review of sensors, glow plugs and related hardware, so nothing is started while another fault is still open.

Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never move are freed second, by a cleaning solution passed through the entry point on that motor, which opens out inside the filter. Badly blocked filters sometimes require a second pass.

A regeneration is next, clearing what the clean has freed. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Culburnie, with you there, or it runs where the car stands and the live data is read after.

Finally the check runs again — the change verified, the light cleared, anything still open logged. Both read-outs arrive with you by email, so the numbers are on record.

Where treatment is not the answer

Only one fault is fixed by treatment: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does little for:

  • sensors, temperature or pressure, reporting a restriction that is not real
  • the EGR valve held open
  • an AdBlue system problem
  • a regeneration that simply never starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • the turbo pushing oil into the filter

That is what the first diagnostic is for. You are told before the work starts, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.

Cutting the filter out is not a remedy: without a working DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the term people search for, though nothing is replaced — your own filter is treated in place and returned into use. Two more worth knowing.

Costs for DPF cleaning across Culburnie

Every visit carries a call-out charge — getting to you, making the booking, running the diagnostic and offering the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.

No flat rate would be honest, so the number is settled over the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. What you own and where you are both change it: Culburnie itself, across at Lonbuie, or further out across the IV postcode area.

Where the scan says treatment will not work, you are not charged for treatment. You even so pay that charge: someone turned up, carried out the scan and offered you the advice.

If the light returns inside that period, an engineer comes back out to Culburnie — the work includes a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.

Igor, was extremely helpful, carried out a diagnostic test and found that my DPF was cracked and needs replacing, so no point in carrying out a clean. Explained everything and gave advice. really helpful service.

Dave B.

Logan came out today at very short notice, was very efficient and knowledgeable. Highly recommended, he was even able to explain things in terms I could understand. an outstanding engineer!!!

What we clean, and how far we travel round Culburnie

The filter is treated where it sits on all of them: cars and estates, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.

Culburnie is seldom a special trip: engineers are working Allarburn Park nearly every week, and the same run takes in Lonbuie, Kiltarlity and the spots out past Loaneckheim. Phone anyway from farther out around Highland. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the slot you are given hangs on the diary rather than how far away you are.

Questions Culburnie drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Can I simply take it for a long drive?
It might, provided you catch it in time and limp mode has not begun. That means motorway speed for a steady spell, rather than a brief trip to Co-op Food.
Roughly how long does it run?
Allow typically around 2 hours — badly clogged filters sometimes take a second pass, which adds to it.
Across Culburnie, what does it come to?
It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the check and the advice. We settle it on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the number.
Must I be there in person?
No. The vehicle wants space to stand for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. The regeneration can be run as a monitored drive if you would prefer to be there.
Coming to Culburnie — how soon?
Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is normal. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the IV area has open.
Will the filter be removed?
Done where it stands, on this service, so no. We do not lift filters off or put them back on, whichever way.
What if the light comes back?
Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer returning to Culburnie.
