Before the light, what the motor was warning you
By the time the light appears, things have normally been deteriorating for a while. It is late news:
- less power, particularly going uphill
- you find the revs stop short of where they always went
- fuel use that is worse than it used to be
- stop/start without a word packing in
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under hard acceleration
That is not conclusive on its own. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is loaded.
Why diesel particulate filters choke around Culbo
