Mobile DPF Cleaning around Crowlas and Cornwall
Mobile DPF cleaning travels to the motor. A fitter arrives at your place across Crowlas, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the car, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.
You'll be given a number by phone before anyone goes, the clean opening from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.
The light is showing and the car is down on power — that is how we normally come across people, and what this page covers.
Your DPF light is on — what now?
Not the unit, necessarily. First thing to get straight. Several faults put the identical light on the identical dashboard, which is why a visit opens with a diagnostic rather than with cleaning.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then makes a difference.
- Amber light, motor yet driving fine — a long steady run can even now clear it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth trying before you ring anything.
- Vehicle already dropped into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not reach it now.
- Stop arranging long drives and get it seen to if the car reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.
Signs the motor has been giving you
The light is late news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have generally been growing for weeks:
- power falling off, particularly climbing uphill
- an engine whose revs will not climb as they should
- the fuel economy is down
- the stop/start without a word packing in
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gears
By itself, none of that is proof. The light with them points at a full filter.
Clogged diesel particulate filters around Crowlas, and the cause
For a DPF, the least kind driving is the type you get in a coastal village such as Crowlas. A regeneration takes long enough and heat, and sees neither: not on the school run to Ludgvan School, not on Chapel Square at the morning rush, not on ten minutes to Morrisons, and not on the dash to St Erth. The soot load banks up rather than clearing.
Neither is distant from Crowlas: over 50 miles to the M5, under 25 miles to Truro. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the run that would scour a filter simply never happens.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
Limp mode is the motor defending itself. Output is held down, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter requires can never run — which is the real problem, because a proper drive works by starting that regeneration.
The usual advice — take it up the motorway — is good, right until it is not. The filter requires cleaning rather than more driving once the car has slipped into limp mode.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle across Crowlas
Nothing leaves the motor. That surprises people. The DPF sits fitted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, anywhere it can sit for a few hours.
A check happens first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by mass, and a look over of the sensor readings, glow plugs and connected hardware, so other faults are cleared before any of it is touched.
Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never move are freed after that, by a cleaning fluid put through the access port on that car, which opens out inside the filter. Badly clogged filters sometimes need a second pass.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean lifted. That is a monitored drive out of Crowlas if you are present, or a static regeneration where the vehicle stands, with the live data checked once done.
A second scan confirms the change, resets the warning light and lists anything still outstanding. Both reports are sent over, so you have the before and after figures on record.
When a DPF clean is not the fix
Only one fault is cured by treatment: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- pressure or temperature sensors showing a blockage that is not there
- the EGR valve held open
- AdBlue system faults
- a regeneration that never completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
- turbo failure, with oil reaching the filter
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's whole job. Where one of those is the fault, you learn of it in advance rather than once the money has gone already.
DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is exchanged: the filter you have is cleared where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it cut out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth knowing.
The cost of DPF cleaning in Crowlas
The clean opens from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that follows.
No single flat rate would be straight, so the figure is settled on the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. Two things change it: what you drive, and where you are — Crowlas itself, across at Vellanoweth, or further out within the TR postcode area.
You are not charged for treatment that the check says will not do it. You even so pay that charge: someone travelled, carried out the check and offered you the advice.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer comes back to Crowlas.
The service was good and quick. After the service he let me know what he done and what else needs to done to my car.
Excellent service ever! They came out at a very needed time. My dpf was badly blocked and the Engineer exercised high patience with it. Great stuff!
Job was carried out on time as requested. After completion I took the truck for a drive and within 1 mile the vehicle went into limp mode. I rang Attila who reattended within the hour reset everything and so far its been fine.
Where we reach around Crowlas, and what we clean
Private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery, agricultural vehicles — the one mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is cleaned in place rather than carried anywhere.
Crowlas is hardly ever a special trip: technicians are out on Chapel Square week in week out, and the same run picks up Vellanoweth, Nanceddan and the spots out past Ludgvan. Coverage reaches UK-wide, so even further out around Cornwall is even so worth a call, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

Questions Crowlas drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough alone?
- Early enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. It needs a steady run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes flat to Morrisons and back.
- Does the visit take long?
- Plan on typically around 2 hours — severely loaded filters sometimes require a second pass, which adds to it.
- In Crowlas, what does it come to?
- It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. The vehicle and your address both shift the price, so we settle it on the phone.
- Must I be there in person?
- Somewhere for the car to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. Ride along if you would rather, and the regeneration is done as a supervised drive.
- When can someone get to Crowlas?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the diary. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the TR area has free.
- Will the filter be taken off?
- Cleaned where it is, on this service, so no. We never get filters off or bolt them back on, whichever way.
- What if the light reappears?
- Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Crowlas.
