Crossroads, East Ayrshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Sorting the DPF takes place at the motor, not at a body shop. Your motor will not be taken anywhere and the filter does not come off. An engineer comes at your place across Crossroads, treats the diesel particulate filter on the motor and performs a DPF regeneration.
Nobody leaves until the number is fixed by the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
Most drivers find us with the light showing, and the motor low on power. That is exactly what this page is aimed at.
Your DPF light is showing — what next?
First thing: it is not necessarily the DPF. A number of faults put the same light on the identical panel, which is why a visit begins with a scan rather than with cleaning.
It matters what you manage with the car between now and the booking.
- Amber light, vehicle even now driving as normal — a long steady run can still clear it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth a try before you call anything.
- Once the car is in limp mode, a long run will not reach it. The window has shut.
- Stop booking long drives and get it checked if the interior stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.
Signs the car has been showing you
The light is belated news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have normally been mounting for weeks:
- falling off on power, particularly uphill
- you see the revs fall short of where they always went
- worse fuel use
- stop/start quietly giving up
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under acceleration
On its own, none of that is proof. With the light beside them, the filter is a fair guess.
The reason diesel particulate filters block around Crossroads
For a DPF, the worst use is the sort you find in a rural hamlet such as Crossroads. Run through an ordinary week: the local primary school and back, A719 at a crawl before half nine, a quick trip to Tesco, a run to Kilmarnock. None of it there lasts long enough or is hot enough to complete a regeneration. Soot that should burn away collects instead.
Save when you have a standing need to drive out to the M77, under 10 miles from Crossroads, or over to Glasgow under 25 miles away, whole weeks pass without a sustained run. Geography is unhelpful.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops
The motor is protecting itself, which is what limp mode is. A sustained drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode blocks: power limited, revs held down, no regeneration possible.
The standard advice — take it up the motorway — is sensible, right until it is not. The far side of that point — limp mode — road work will not manage it, and the filter requires treatment.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is done round Crossroads
On your front, in a work car park, wherever the motor can sit for a few hours: the job is done with the filter even now fixed on, which is the part most owners do not see coming.
A diagnostic comes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by weight, and a look over of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and related parts, so other faults are ruled out before any of it is started.
Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never shift are freed after that, by a cleaning fluid fed through the access point on that motor, which spreads inside the filter. Where the filter is severely loaded, plan on a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has loosened. Come with the car and it turns into a monitored drive out of Crossroads. Drop it and the regeneration runs statically, with real-time data checked once it is done.
A second diagnostic proves the change, puts out the warning light and notes anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are sent over, so you keep the before and after figures on record.
What a DPF clean will not cure
A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing a clean cures. It will not touch:
- sensors, pressure or temperature, reporting a restriction that is not real
- a failed EGR valve
- an AdBlue system problem
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration starting at all
- a turbo passing oil through the filter
Finding that out is the first check's purpose. You are warned before all work gets going, not after you have handed over, should it turns out to be one of those.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter hollowed out will fail its MOT, and driving it is against the law, so that is no solution. What gets looked up as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your own filter is cleared in place and goes back into service.
DPF cleaning costs in Crossroads
The cleaning opens from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that goes with it.
Not one flat rate would be truthful, so the number is fixed by the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. What you drive and where you are both shift it: Crossroads itself, across at Bellfield, or further out across the KA postcode area.
A clean that will not do it is not a clean you pay for, and the check is what says so. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone turned up, ran the scan and passed on you the advice.
A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the clean, and that includes an engineer travelling back out to Crossroads if the light returns inside the window.
Jim who came out to me on site, nice guy pleasure to deal with very helpful. checked out my truck reset the computer and away we went no dash lights currently.
Really positive experience using DPF Fixer. The technicians attended on time and explained the process well. Leaving me with a vehicle health check, diagnostic report and full details of the job carried out. The car runs much better as a result of the DPF clean. Recommended.
Liam did a great job and I was very happy with the level of service and professionalism. Thanks for being so flexible in your times to fix the dpf.
The vehicles we clean and the ground we take in round Crossroads
Cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery, farm vehicles — the one on-site service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated where it sits rather than moved anywhere.
Our engineers are along A719 most weeks, so Crossroads is rarely a special trip, and the same run takes in Bellfield, Galston and the places out past Hurlford. Even further out around East Ayrshire is even so worth a call — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that settles between this day and the next.
Crossroads itself
Crossroads is a small hamlet situated on the riverside in East Ayrshire, with a relatively low elevation of 57 metres. Crossroads is located near the communities of Hurlford, Bellfield, and Crookedholm, and is approximately 21 miles from Glasgow. Crossroads has a population of around 535 people, and is characterised by predominantly detached housing. Crossroads is also a significant distance from London, at around 332 miles away.
Things Crossroads drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- If you spot it early, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. Fifteen minutes to Tesco and back will not do it; motorway speed, sustained for a stretch, will.
- How long does the visit last?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily blocked filter can need a second clean, which adds to that.
- Around Crossroads, what does it run to?
- The call-out charge takes in the visit, the check and the advice; cleaning itself begins from £299. The vehicle and your address both change the price, so we settle it on the phone.
- Have I have to be present?
- No. The car requires space to wait for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. Travel along if you like, and the regeneration turns into a supervised drive.
- Getting to Crossroads — how soon?
- Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is normal. Ring 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is free across the KA area.
- The filter — does it come away from the car?
- On the call-out service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. Getting a filter off or putting one back on count as anything something we do either way.
- Suppose the light returns?
- Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Crossroads.
