Mobile DPF Cleaning around Crossapol, Argyll and Bute

Mobile DPF cleaning travels to the car. No body shop, no filter going anywhere. A technician drives out to your door in Crossapol, treats the diesel particulate filter where it is, runs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you arrived with.

The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the number is settled by the phone before anyone leaves.

If the light is showing and the vehicle is down on power, this page is for you. That is how most owners arrive here.

DPF light on? What happens next

It might not be the DPF at all. That is the main thing. A scan goes before all treatment, because that same dash light has several candidate faults behind it.

It tells what you do with the car between now and the booking.

  • Amber light, motor still driving normally — a long even run can still clear it by itself. Costs zero, and worth a try before you call anything.
  • A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has now closed.
  • Stop arranging long drives and get it looked at if the interior smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.

Signs the vehicle has been giving you

The light is late news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have generally been mounting for some time:

  • dropping away on power, above all uphill
  • you find the revs stop short of where they always went
  • the fuel use is worse
  • a stop/start that has meekly packed in
  • a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under hard acceleration

None of that is conclusive by itself. Next to the light beside them, the filter is a fair assumption.

Blocked diesel particulate filters around Crossapol, and the cause

For a DPF, the poorest driving is the kind you get around a coastal village such as Crossapol. Think about a typical week: the local primary school and home again, B8065 at a halt before half nine, a quick trip to The Co-operative Food, a dash to the nearest station. Nothing there runs long enough or is hot enough to see through a regeneration. The soot load banks up rather than burning away.

Save when you have a regular need to get out to the M8, over 50 miles from Crossapol, or across to Derry over 50 miles away, whole weeks go by without a sustained drive. Geography is against you.

DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode stops it

What limp mode comes down to is the motor defending itself. Output is limited, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter needs can no longer happen — which is the real problem, because a long drive works by starting that regeneration.

Getting it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it works as far as a point. The filter needs a clean rather than road work once the vehicle has gone into limp mode.

Call-out DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands round Crossapol

Nothing leaves the motor. That surprises people. The DPF stays fixed where it is and the work happens around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can stand for two hours or so.

The ECU is taken first, reporting soot load by percentage and by actual weight, along with a review of sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected hardware, so nothing is touched while another fault is still possible.

Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never budge are freed next, by a cleaning fluid put through the access port on that vehicle, which opens out inside the filter. Badly clogged filters sometimes need a second pass.

Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has freed. That is a monitored drive out of Crossapol if you are along, or a static regeneration where the vehicle sits, with the live data read once done.

Both sets of figures come through by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second check is what confirms the change, clears the light and notes whatever is still open.

Where cleaning is not the answer

One thing is what a clean cures — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:

  • the wrong signal from a temperature or pressure sensor
  • an EGR valve jammed open
  • the AdBlue system failing
  • a regeneration that simply never completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • a turbo passing oil through the filter

That is what the first check is for. If it turns out to be one of those, you are told before any work gets going rather than after you have paid a penny.

DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is exchanged: the filter you have is cleared where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it hollowed out a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth knowing.

What DPF cleaning runs to across Crossapol

A clean begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.

Publishing a flat rate would not be truthful. We settle it by phone, once the car and its expected needs are known. What you own and where you are both change it: Crossapol itself, across at Cu Dheis, or farther out in the PA postcode area.

A clean that will not help is not treatment you pay for, and the scan is what says so. What still holds is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the check was carried out and the advice was given.

A 30-day warranty covers aftercare on the work, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Crossapol if the light comes back inside the time.

Fantastic service from Andras and his trainee assistant (Andy?) sorry the name has slipped my brain. Andras was very knowledgeable and he got my van running within good time. I'm very happy with the service I was given! Thank you.

James C.

Fantastic service!!!!! Rung them and they came out the next day! Guy was fantastic and was only there just over an hour. would highly recommend.

Laura H.

From my desperate phonecall to Zolton showing up was about 1 hour!! The service was quick, friendly and efficient. Zolton clearly has a passion for cars which shone through. He was a really nice guy and explained each step well. The result is a success.

Vehicles we clean, and where we travel around Crossapol

Cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery, farm vehicles — the one mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is cleaned on the vehicle rather than moved anywhere.

Crossapol is hardly ever a special trip: our engineers are working B8065 nearly every week, and the same run takes in Cu Dheis, Baugh and the places out past Scarinish. Phone anyway from even further out through Argyll and Bute. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the day you are offered comes down to the calendar rather than how far away you are.

What Crossapol drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run sort it?
Early enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Ten minutes to The Co-operative Food and back will not be enough; motorway speed, kept for a while, will.
Does the visit take long?
Plan on typically around 2 hours — badly blocked filters sometimes require a second pass, which adds to it.
Around Crossapol, what does it cost?
Cleaning starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the number, so we settle it on the phone.
Have I got to be there?
Somewhere for the motor to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. The regeneration can be done as a watched drive if you would prefer to ride along.
Coming to Crossapol — how soon?
Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is usual. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is open across the PA area.
Will the filter be removed?
On the mobile service, no: the filter is treated in place. Taking a filter off or putting one back on count as anything work we do in either direction.
What if the light comes back?
The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer returning to Crossapol.
