Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Cross, Monmouthshire
The car stays where it is — mobile DPF cleaning travels to it. An engineer turns up at your place across Cross, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the motor, performs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.
Nobody sets off until the number is agreed over the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
Written for the position most callers are in: the light showing, the car short for power, and the job still to book.
DPF light on? What to do
First thing: it is not always the filter. Several faults put the very same light on the very same dash, which is why a visit starts with a diagnostic rather than with treatment.
Second thing: how you drive it between now and then counts.
- Vehicle yet driving as normal on an amber light — try a long constant run first. It costs nothing at all and regularly clears the filter without a visit.
- A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has now closed.
- Get it checked rather than using it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on the throttle, has gone well past the long-run stage.
Signs the motor has been giving you
The light is late news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have usually been mounting for some time:
- power tailing off, above all going uphill
- an engine whose revs will not pull as they should
- the fuel economy is down
- silently, the stop/start bows out
- the interior stinking of diesel, or smoke when you press on
Any one of those, taken singly, is not evidence. Alongside the light with them, the filter is a fair guess.
Choked diesel particulate filters around Cross, and the cause
Being a small village, Cross throws up exactly the driving a DPF manages worst. Look at an ordinary week: Garway Primary School and back, Poorscript Lane at a crawl before the hour, a short hop to the local shops, a run to Abergavenny. None of it there goes on long enough or gets hot enough to see through a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the soot builds up.
Where you sit does not oblige either. The M50 is under 15 miles from Cross and Hereford is under 15 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way routinely, weeks pass without the long steady run that might clear the filter on its own.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode ends it
What limp mode amounts to is the motor protecting itself. A long drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode rules out: power held down, revs held down, no regeneration available.
So the usual advice to take it up the motorway is good advice, up until it is not. The filter requires treatment rather than more driving once the car has slipped into limp mode.
The vehicle stays in place for call-out DPF cleaning across Cross
The filter does not leave it. That is the detail most drivers do not anticipate: the job takes place with the DPF yet fixed to the car, on your driveway, in a work car park, any place the car can stand for a while.
Nothing is started until other faults are ruled out. That means a scan first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by weight, and a look over of the sensor readings, glow plugs and associated components.
Next comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the vehicle's own access point, opening out inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration will not. Where the filter is badly loaded, allow for a second pass.
What the clean has loosened is then cleared by a regeneration. That is a monitored drive out of Cross if you are there, or a static regeneration where the motor sits, with the live data verified once done.
A second diagnostic verifies the change, resets the warning light and lists anything still outstanding. Both read-outs are emailed over, so you end up with the before and after figures recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the answer
Only one fault is answered by cleaning: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- temperature or pressure sensors flagging a block that is not there
- an EGR valve jammed open
- the AdBlue system playing up
- a regeneration that never starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
- a turbo putting oil through the filter
The first diagnostic is there for exactly that. Where one of those proves the fault, you learn of it in advance rather than once the money has left already.
Cutting the filter out is not a solution: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is against the law. DPF renewal is the term people look up, though nothing is swapped — your existing filter is cleared in place and sent back into use. Two more worth knowing.
DPF cleaning charges around Cross
A clean begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.
Quoting a flat rate would not be straight. We fix it by phone, once the motor and its likely needs are known. What you run and where you are both move it: Cross itself, out at White Rocks, or otherwise out in the NP postcode area.
If the scan counts treatment out, there is not a penny to pay for it. The call-out charge even so holds, because the visit, the check and the advice have taken place.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer comes back to Cross.
Excellent customer service knowledgeable and very efficient booking service. Professional and friendly technician - good to see a customer focused company these days. Would recommend to others.
Andras was very knowledgeable and professional in rectifying the problem with the DPF on my Range Rover Vouge Autobiography, which also involved replacing a throttle assembly.
From start to finish the company was great. Would definitely recommend if you are having DPF problems as they will get it sorted in a very quick manner.
Vehicles we clean, and where we travel around Cross
One mobile service covers private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is cleaned where it sits rather than moved anywhere.
Most weeks there is by then someone on Poorscript Lane, so Cross hardly ever means a journey of its own, and White Rocks, Llangua and the villages past Garway are on the way. Coverage is UK-wide, so even further out around Monmouthshire is still worth a call, and what settles between today and tomorrow is the schedule rather than the distance.

Questions Cross drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I simply take it for a long drive?
- If you spot it early, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. That calls for motorway speed for a long run, rather than a quick trip to the local shops.
- How long does the visit run?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily loaded filter can take a second clean, which adds to that.
- Across Cross, what does it run to?
- The call-out charge takes in the visit, the check and the advice; cleaning itself opens from £299. The vehicle and your address both shift the figure, so we settle it on the phone.
- Must I be there in person?
- Somewhere for the vehicle to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a monitored drive instead.
- When can someone get to Cross?
- That comes down to the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the NP area has free.
- Is the filter lifted off the vehicle?
- Treated where it is, on this service, so no. And neither does taking a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer returning to Cross.
