Cromwell Bottom, West Yorkshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Sorting the DPF happens at the car, not at a body shop. No workshop, no filter going anywhere. A fitter drives out to your place over in Cromwell Bottom, treats the diesel particulate filter where it is, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.
Nobody leaves until the figure is fixed by the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
The light is on already and the vehicle is low on power — that is how we normally come across people, and what this page deals with.
The DPF light is on. What then?
First thing: it is not automatically the DPF. A clean is not where a visit begins. A check is — several faults show up as the same light.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then makes a difference.
- Car yet driving as normal on an amber light — try a long even run first. It costs nothing and frequently sorts the filter without help.
- Car already dropped into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not shift it now.
- A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under acceleration, is the point to stop planning long drives and call.
The vehicle has been telling you already
Belated news, the light. The symptoms tend to build for some time before it appears:
- going uphill, the power tails off
- you see the revs fall short of where they once went
- consumption that is worse than it used to be
- silently, the stop/start gives up
- the cabin smelling of diesel, or smoke when you press on
By itself, none of that is evidence. The light beside them indicates a loaded filter.
What chokes diesel particulate filters near Cromwell Bottom
The driving that goes with a small village like Cromwell Bottom is the least kind sort for a DPF. Run through an ordinary week: Old Earth Primary School and home, Cromwell Bottom Drive at a halt before the hour, a short hop to Aldi, a run to Brighouse. Nothing there goes on long enough or gets hot enough to complete a regeneration. The soot load banks up rather than burning away.
Geography does not help either. The M62 is under 3 miles from Cromwell Bottom and Bradford is under 10 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way routinely, whole weeks go by without the sustained run that would empty the filter by itself.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode kills it
The motor is defending itself, which is what limp mode means. With pulling power limited and the revs held, the regeneration the filter needs can never happen at all. That matters, because triggering one is exactly what a motorway run does.
The common advice — get it up the motorway — is sensible, right until it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that stage: cleaning is what will help, not more road work.
DPF cleaning at the motor across Cromwell Bottom
Most drivers do not anticipate this bit: the filter stays put. The job is done with the DPF even now fitted to the car — on your driveway, in a work car park, any place the motor can stand for a while.
First a diagnostic. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a mass, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the associated parts — all of it logged before anything is cleaned.
Then comes the clean itself: solution in through the motor's own access port, expanding inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration cannot. A second pass is sometimes called for on badly clogged filters.
Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has loosened. Stay with the motor and it becomes a monitored drive out of Cromwell Bottom. Drop it and the regeneration is done statically, with running data checked once it is done.
Both reports come through by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second scan is what confirms the change, resets the light and lists whatever is still outstanding.
When a DPF clean is not the answer
A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing cleaning fixes. It will not touch:
- the wrong signal from a temperature sensor
- EGR valves that stick open
- a problem in the AdBlue system
- a regeneration that hardly ever completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
- oil coming through the filter from a faulty turbo
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's purpose. You are warned before any work begins, not after you have settled up, should it turns out to be one of those.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no remedy. What gets looked up as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your existing filter is cleared in place and goes back into service.
DPF cleaning charges around Cromwell Bottom
Each visit attracts a call-out charge — getting to you, making the booking, running the check and giving the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
The figure is fixed over the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be straight. Whereabouts you are tells as much as what you drive: Cromwell Bottom itself, Elland Lower Edge nearby, or otherwise out within the HD postcode area.
Cleaning that will not do it is not a clean you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. You still pay that charge: someone turned up, carried out the scan and passed on you the advice.
If the light reappears inside that time, an engineer heads back out to Cromwell Bottom — the job includes a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.

What we clean, and how far we go near Cromwell Bottom
Cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, farm vehicles — the one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is cleaned where it sits rather than moved anywhere.
Most weeks there is by then someone on Cromwell Bottom Drive, so Cromwell Bottom seldom means a special trip, and Elland Lower Edge, Southowram and the villages past Elland Upper Edge come with it. It is the schedule, not the distance, that settles whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so ring still from farther out around West Yorkshire.

What Cromwell Bottom drivers wonder about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run shift it?
- If you get it early enough, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. That calls for motorway speed for a sustained stretch, rather than a quick trip to Aldi.
- Broadly how long does it run?
- Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is badly clogged.
- What does it run to across Cromwell Bottom?
- The call-out charge takes in the visit, the check and the advice; the clean itself opens from £299. Quoting is done by phone, since what you drive and where you sit both shift the figure.
- Is it necessary for me to be present?
- The motor needs a spot for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. The regeneration can be run as a supervised drive if you would prefer to be there.
- Coming to Cromwell Bottom — how soon?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is usual. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is open across the HD area.
- The filter — does it come off the car?
- On the call-out service, no: the filter is treated in place. We never take filters off or fit them back on, either way.
- And if the light comes back?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to Cromwell Bottom.
