Coxpark, Cornwall: Mobile DPF Cleaning

Sorting the DPF happens at the motor, not at a body shop. The engineer arrives at your place across Coxpark and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is treated on the car, a DPF regeneration follows, and you hold on to the filter you came with.

The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the number is agreed over the phone before anyone leaves.

The light is already on and the motor is down on power — that is how we generally find people, and roughly what this page deals with.

The DPF light is on. What then?

It might not be the filter whatsoever. That is the opening thing. That light can come from several faults, not just one, so the visit opens with a diagnostic and not with a clean.

Second thing: how you run it between now and then matters.

  • Vehicle even now driving as normal on an amber light — try a long even run first. It costs nothing at all and frequently shifts the filter without help.
  • Motor already fallen into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not shift it now.
  • Stop booking long drives and get it checked if the car reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.

Before the light, what the car was warning you

The light is late news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have generally been building for weeks:

  • dropping away on power, especially uphill
  • revs that will not pull the way they used to
  • fuel consumption turning worse
  • silently, the stop/start bows out
  • the car reeking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate

None of that is proof by itself. Alongside the light, it is a fair bet the filter is full.

What clogs diesel particulate filters near Coxpark

Coxpark is a small village, and the day-to-day driving that goes with one is the least kind sort for a DPF. A regeneration needs time and heat, and sees neither: not on the school run to Copper Valley Infant and Nursery Academy, not on Tamar Park at half past eight, not on ten minutes to Tesco, and not on the dash to Gunnislake. Instead of burning off, the unburnt soot collects.

Unless you have a routine reason to get out to the M5, under 50 miles from Coxpark, or across to Plymouth under 15 miles away, entire weeks slip past without a sustained stint. Geography is no help.

DPF regeneration, and the point limp mode ends it

Limp mode is the motor looking after itself. The real catch is that a long drive works by starting a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not pull and power is held down.

Sensible advice, that motorway run — up until the day it is not. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are the far side of that line, and the filter needs cleaning rather than driving.

The vehicle stays in place for call-out DPF cleaning round Coxpark

On your driveway, in a work car park, wherever the vehicle can stand for a while: the job is done with the filter still fitted on, which is the bit most owners do not anticipate.

The ECU is interrogated first, giving soot load by percentage and by actual weight, along with a check of sensor feeds, glow plugs and associated parts, so nothing is cleaned while another fault is still in play.

A solution next goes in through the access point on that motor, expanding inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration alone will never budge. Badly clogged filters sometimes require a second pass.

Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean lifted. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Coxpark; if not, statically where the vehicle sits, with the live data read after.

Both sets of figures come through by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second scan is what confirms the change, clears the light and lists whatever is still open.

The problems a DPF clean cannot fix

Cleaning fixes one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:

  • sensors, temperature or pressure, showing a restriction that is not real
  • a stuck-open EGR valve
  • an AdBlue system failure
  • a regeneration that hardly ever starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • turbo trouble, with oil getting into the filter

That is what the first scan is for. Proving to be one of them means hearing it before work gets going, not after settling up for it.

Gutting the filter out is not a remedy: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the term people look up, though nothing is swapped — your original filter is cleared in place and sent back into use. Two more worth noting.

The price for DPF cleaning in Coxpark

Every visit takes a call-out charge — getting to you, setting up the booking, doing the scan and offering the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.

Once we are told what you drive, and broadly what the filter will take, the figure gets settled over phone. A single price for all would not be honest. Two things change it: what you run, and where you are — Coxpark itself, out at Latchley, or farther out in the PL postcode area.

If the diagnostic rules treatment out, there is not a penny to pay for it. The call-out charge nonetheless stands, because the visit, the scan and the advice have taken place.

Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer comes back to Coxpark.

The vehicles we clean and the ground we reach round Coxpark

A single call-out service covers cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is treated in place rather than moved anywhere.

Nearly every week there is already someone on Tamar Park, so Coxpark rarely means a special trip, and Latchley, St Anns Chapel and the villages past Chilsworthy come with it. Even further out around Cornwall is even so worth ringing about — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that decides between this day and the next.

What Coxpark drivers want to know about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive clear it?
Sometimes, if you get it in time and the motor has not fallen into limp mode. That requires motorway speed for a long spell, rather than a quick trip to Tesco.
The visit lasts how long?
Allow typically around 2 hours — severely clogged filters sometimes require a second pass, which extends it.
Around Coxpark, what does it come to?
Treatment begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the scan and the advice. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the price.
Must I be present in person?
The motor wants a spot for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. Wanting to be there is no problem: the regeneration then goes out on the move, monitored.
When can someone travel to Coxpark?
Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is typical. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is open across the PL area.
Is the filter removed from the car?
It is done where it stands, on the on-site service. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
And if the light reappears?
Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer returning to Coxpark.
