Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Cotts, Devon

The vehicle stays in place — call-out DPF cleaning goes to it. A technician comes at your door over in Cotts, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the motor, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.

Nobody travels until the number is settled over the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.

If the light is already on and the vehicle is down on power, this page is the right one. That is how most owners get to us.

Your DPF light is lit — what next?

Not the filter, always. Opening thing to note. A scan happens before the treatment, because that same dash light has several candidate faults behind it.

The driving you get in the meantime matters. That is the second thing.

  • Motor still driving normally on an amber light — attempt a long even run first. It costs zero and frequently sorts the filter without assistance.
  • A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has already shut.
  • Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under the throttle — stop planning long drives and get it checked.

What the car has been warning you

By the time the light appears, things have usually been deteriorating for some time. It is belated news:

  • less power, especially climbing uphill
  • you see the revs stop short of where they always went
  • worse fuel use
  • quietly, the stop/start packs in
  • a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under the throttle

Any one of those, taken alone, is not evidence. With the light with them, the filter is a fair bet.

Blocked diesel particulate filters around Cotts, and the reason

Being a coastal area, Cotts generates exactly the driving a DPF handles the poorest. A regeneration needs long enough and heat, and sees not much: not on the school run to Bere Alston Primary Academy, not on Cornwall Street at half past eight, not on five minutes to Co-op Food, and not on the hop to Bere Alston. Soot that should burn away builds up instead.

The M5 lies under 50 miles from Cotts, Plymouth under 10 miles out, and unless something takes you out that way regularly, whole weeks slip past without the long unbroken run that empties a unit. Geography does not assist.

Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration

The car is defending itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. Power is limited, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter needs can no longer run — which is the real catch, because a sustained drive works by triggering that regeneration.

Good advice, that motorway run — up until the point it is not. In limp mode you are beyond that line: a clean is what will help, not more road work.

The car stays in place for mobile DPF cleaning round Cotts

Nothing comes off the motor. That surprises people. The DPF stays fixed where it is and the work is done around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can wait for two hours or so.

Nothing is cleaned until other faults are ruled out. That involves a diagnostic first: real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by weight, and a review of the sensor readings, glow plugs and related hardware.

Then the cleaning. A cleaning fluid is injected through the access port on that car and expands inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to require doing twice.

Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has loosened. That is a monitored drive out of Cotts if you are there, or a static regeneration where the vehicle stands, with the running data checked afterwards.

Then a second diagnostic, confirming the change, putting out the warning light and listing anything still logged. Both read-outs are emailed, so the before and after figures are recorded.

When a DPF clean is not the fix

Only one fault is answered by a clean: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does nothing for:

  • the wrong figure from a pressure or temperature sensor
  • a failed EGR valve
  • an AdBlue system problem
  • injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration running in the first place
  • the turbo putting oil into the filter

The first diagnostic is there for precisely that. You are told before the work starts, not after you have handed over, if it turns out to be one of those.

Hollowing the filter out is not a solution: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is against the law. DPF renewal is the wording people look up, though nothing is replaced — your original filter is cleared in place and put back into use. Two more worth noting.

DPF cleaning costs across Cotts

The treatment opens from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that goes with it.

Once we have what you run, and broadly what the filter will need, the figure gets fixed by phone. A single price for all would not be truthful. The place you are matters as much as what you own: Cotts itself, Weir Quay next door, or farther out across the PL postcode area.

Treatment that will not do it is not a clean you pay for, and the scan is what says so. The call-out charge nonetheless holds, because the visit, the scan and the advice have been done.

The work comes with a 30-day warranty including aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Cotts if the light comes back inside that window.

A vehicle having its DPF treated in Cotts

Really good service. Everything explained clearly. Pointed out some other engine issues to check out which was very helpful. Expensive compared to other companies but with the 28 day warranty I felt happy to pay to get the best service. Couldn't fault the engineer he was excellent.

Siobhan P.

Daz was knowledgeable and friendly he explained exactly what he was doing and the process involved and within 45mins my dpf was clear and my vehicle was back running smoothly. 10 out of 10 very pleased.

Andy Y.

Happy with the operative it came and worked on more van the van run lovely for 3 days and then the engine light come back on again and it went back into restrictive so I need to get in touch to with the company to see where we go.

The vehicles we clean and the area we reach around Cotts

The filter is cleaned where it sits on all of them: private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.

The same round that keeps engineers on Cornwall Street most weeks picks up Cotts, Weir Quay, Tuckermarsh and the places beyond Bere Ferrers. It is the diary, not the distance, that picks whether it is this day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so call even from even further out through Devon.

Common questions on DPF cleaning across Cotts

Can I simply take it for a long drive?
If you catch it in time, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it takes — not five minutes or so to Co-op Food and back.
Roughly how long does it take?
That is typically around 2 hours, though a badly clogged filter can take cleaning twice, which adds time.
Across Cotts, what does it come to?
The call-out charge takes in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; treatment itself starts from £299. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the number.
Have I got to be there?
You do not need to stand with it — the vehicle just requires a spot to stand for a couple of hours. Ride along if you would rather, and the regeneration is done as a watched drive.
Can someone travel to Cotts soon?
You are offered often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the calendar. Ring 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is open across the PL area.
The filter — does it come away from the motor?
It is done where it stands, on the on-site service. We never take filters off or fit them back on, whichever way.
And if the light returns?
Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Cotts.
