Mobile DPF Cleaning across Cotburn, Aberdeenshire

The car remains put — call-out DPF cleaning goes to it. No workshop, no filter leaving. An engineer drives out to your address in Cotburn, clears the diesel particulate filter as it sits, runs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.

The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the number is settled over the phone before anyone sets off.

If the light is showing and the motor is short of power, this page is for you. That is how most people end up here.

DPF light on? What to do

First thing: it is not automatically the filter. A clean is not where a visit begins. A check is — plenty of faults appear as the same warning.

It counts what you get with the motor between now and the visit.

  • A long steady run may yet manage it, provided the light is amber and the motor runs fine. Costs zero, so attempt that before booking.
  • Motor already fallen into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not shift it now.
  • A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under the throttle, is the stage to stop booking long drives and ring.

Signs the car has been showing you

The light is belated news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have generally been building for weeks:

  • tailing off on power, especially uphill
  • an engine whose revs will not climb as before
  • fuel consumption going worse
  • without a word, the stop/start packs in
  • the interior stinking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate

None of that is evidence on its own. Next to the light with them, the filter is a fair guess.

Blocked diesel particulate filters around Cotburn, and the why

For a DPF, the poorest driving is the type you find around a rural hamlet such as Cotburn. A regeneration needs long enough and heat, and sees neither: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on B9105 at half past eight, not on five minutes to Co-op, and not on the run to the nearest station. What should burn away stays put.

Neither is far from Cotburn: over 50 miles to the M90, under 50 miles to Aberdeen. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the run that would empty a filter never comes.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops working

What limp mode comes down to is the motor protecting itself. With power capped and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter wants can never happen at all. That tells, because setting off one is exactly what a long run does.

So the common advice to run it up the motorway is sensible advice, right until it stops being. Beyond that stage — limp mode — more driving will not manage it, and the filter needs cleaning.

The motor stays where it is for on-site DPF cleaning across Cotburn

The filter does not budge. That is the bit most people do not anticipate: the job takes place with the DPF yet fitted to the motor, on your front, in a work car park, any place the car can stand for a couple of hours.

The ECU is read first, giving soot load by proportion and by actual weight, along with a review of sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected parts, so nothing is started while another fault is still open.

A cleaning fluid next goes in through the access point on that car, opening out inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never shift. Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to require doing twice.

Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has lifted. Stay with the motor and it turns into a monitored drive out of Cotburn. Park it and the regeneration goes in place, with live data checked once it is done.

Then a second check, verifying the change, resetting the warning light and logging anything still logged. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so the before and after figures are recorded.

Where treatment is not the solution

One thing is what a clean fixes — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does no good for:

  • sensors, pressure, flagging a restriction that is not real
  • a jammed EGR valve
  • AdBlue system problems
  • injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration completing in the first place
  • the turbo putting oil into the filter

That is what the first scan is for. Where one of those is the fault, you find out about it up front rather than once the money has left already.

Two more worth knowing. Having the filter hollowed out is not a solution — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is cleaned in place and returned into use.

What DPF cleaning runs to around Cotburn

Cleaning starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.

Not one flat rate would be honest, so the price is fixed by the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. What you own and where you are both move it: Cotburn itself, across at Crossfields, or farther out within the AB postcode area.

You are not billed for treatment that the diagnostic says will not work. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened, the call-out charge nonetheless stands.

If the light comes back inside that window, an engineer comes back out to Cotburn — the job comes with a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.

What we clean, and how far we travel near Cotburn

Private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, farm vehicles — the one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done in place rather than moved anywhere.

Cotburn is rarely a special trip: engineers are working B9105 week in week out, and the same run takes in Crossfields, Cauldwells and the spots out past Garmond. Phone anyway from even further out around Aberdeenshire. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the slot you are offered depends on the diary rather than how far away you are.

What Cotburn drivers wonder about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive clear it?
Soon enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Ten minutes to Co-op and back will not do it; motorway speed, sustained for a while, will.
Roughly how long does it last?
Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean extending that where the filter is badly clogged.
Around Cotburn, what does it come to?
Cleaning starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the scan and the advice. We settle it on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the figure.
Have I have to be around?
The motor requires a spot for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a watched drive instead.
How soon can someone travel to Cotburn?
Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is usual. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is available across the AB area.
Does the filter leave the motor?
On the call-out service, no: the filter is treated in place. Lifting a filter off or fitting one back on count as anything a job we do whichever way.
Suppose the light comes back?
Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Cotburn.
