What the vehicle has been showing you
Symptoms have usually been growing for some time before the light ever shows. Last news, in other words:
- less power, above all climbing uphill
- an engine whose revs will not climb like they did
- fuel use turning worse
- the stop/start silently giving up
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in there
None of that is conclusive on its own. Next to the light alongside them, the filter is a fair bet.
Why diesel particulate filters choke near Concord
