Mobile DPF Cleaner

Comp, Kent: Mobile DPF Cleaning

The motor remains where it is — mobile DPF cleaning travels to it. An engineer comes at your door over in Comp, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the car, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.

Nobody leaves until the figure is settled on the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.

The light is showing and the car is down on power — that is how we usually come across people, and roughly what this page deals with.

The DPF light is on. What then?

First thing: it is not automatically the DPF. Plenty of faults put the same light on the same panel, which is why a visit opens with a scan rather than with a clean.

It counts what you do with the motor between now and the booking.

  • Worth a shot before you call anything: amber light, motor driving normally, just one constant run, no cost.
  • A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has by then gone.
  • Stop booking long drives and get it checked if the cabin smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you press on.

The motor has been showing you already

Symptoms have usually been building for weeks before the light so much as appears. Late news, in other words:

  • power falling off, particularly climbing uphill
  • the revs no longer rise the way they always did
  • fuel use turning worse
  • the stop/start without a word packing in
  • a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under acceleration

Any one of those, taken singly, is not evidence. Alongside the light, it is a fair guess the filter is loaded.

Choked diesel particulate filters around Comp, and the cause

The driving that comes with a small village like Comp is the poorest sort for a DPF. The school run to Platt Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, Seven Mile Lane at a standstill at half eight, a few minutes to Co-op Food, the dash to Borough Green & Wrotham — not one bit of it lasts long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. Soot that should burn off banks up instead.

Neither is distant from Comp: under 3 miles to the M26, under 25 miles to Southend-on-Sea. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the drive that would clear a filter never happens.

DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode kills it

What limp mode comes down to is the car looking after itself. The entire difficulty is that a proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not rise and power is limited.

Good advice, that motorway run — until the point it is not. In limp mode you are beyond that stage: treatment is what will do it, not more road work.

The car stays where it is for on-site DPF cleaning round Comp

On your drive, in a work car park, any place the motor can sit for a couple of hours: the job happens with the filter even now fitted on, which is the part most people do not anticipate.

Nothing is touched until other faults are eliminated. That involves a scan first: live data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by weight, and a review of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected hardware.

Then comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the vehicle's own entry point, expanding inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration never can. Badly clogged filters sometimes require a second pass.

Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean lifted. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Comp, with you along, or it is done where the vehicle stands and the real-time data is verified after.

Finally the scan runs again — the change proven, the light reset, anything still showing logged. Both reports come to you by email, so the numbers are recorded.

The faults a DPF clean cannot answer

Treatment cures one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does no good for:

  • the wrong figure from a pressure or temperature sensor
  • the EGR valve held open
  • AdBlue system faults
  • injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration running at all
  • oil working through the filter from a worn turbo

Finding that out is the first check's whole job. You are told before all work begins, not after you have settled up, if it turns out to be one of those.

DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is swapped: the filter you own is treated where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it gutted a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth knowing.

The cost of DPF cleaning around Comp

Each visit carries a call-out charge — getting to you, setting up the booking, doing the scan and passing on the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.

Once we have what you run, and broadly what the filter will want, the figure gets fixed over phone. A single price for everyone would not be honest. Two separate things move it: what you run, and where you are — Comp itself, across at Wrotham Heath, or further out across the TN postcode area.

You are not asked to pay for cleaning that the diagnostic says will not help. The call-out charge nonetheless holds, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have happened.

If the light returns inside that window, an engineer heads back out to Comp — the clean comes with a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.

Logan fixed my problem quickly and efficiently. I was very impressed with him and DPF Fixer. I will recommend the company in future.

Dave was great and really knowledgeable, was polite enough to call me letting me know his arrival time. He cleaned my dpf in about an hour and even gave me some advice on further maintenance on my BMW. Thanks Dave.

George B.

Great experience, friendly and helpful. Stuck on holiday and no garages locally could help, gave these guys a call and within the hour Darren was there and had the problem sorted within a couple of hours!

What we clean, and how far we travel round Comp

One call-out service spans cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.

Week in week out there is usually someone on Seven Mile Lane, so Comp rarely means a detour, and Wrotham Heath, Offham and the places past Platt come with it. Ring anyway from further out through Kent. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the slot you get depends on the calendar rather than how far away you are.

Things Comp drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Can I simply take it for a long drive?
Quickly enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. That requires motorway speed for a long spell, rather than a brief trip to Co-op Food.
The visit lasts how long?
It is typically around 2 hours. A badly blocked filter can need a second clean, which lengthens that.
How much does it run to in Comp?
The call-out charge covers the visit, the scan and the advice; treatment itself opens from £299. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the price.
Must I be present in person?
You do not need to stand with it — the vehicle only wants somewhere to sit for a couple of hours. Preferring to be there is welcome: the regeneration then goes out on the road, monitored.
Can someone travel to Comp soon?
That comes down to the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the TN area has free.
Will the filter be removed?
Not on the on-site service — it is done where it stands. Getting a filter off or fitting one back on amount to anything something we do either way.
Suppose the light comes back?
Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to Comp.
