Cockshoot, Gloucestershire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Sorting the DPF takes place at the vehicle, not at a workshop. Your motor is not taken anywhere and the filter does not come off. A technician turns up at your place over in Cockshoot, cleans the diesel particulate filter fitted to the car and carries out a DPF regeneration.
The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean opens from £299, and the number is settled on the phone before anyone leaves.
The light is on already and the car is down on power — that is how we usually find people, and roughly what this page is about.
DPF light on? What to do
It might not be the filter whatsoever. That is the first thing. Cleaning is not where a visit opens. A check is — several faults show up as the same signal.
Second thing: how you drive it between now and then makes a difference.
- Vehicle still driving normally on an amber light — try a long even run first. It costs zero and regularly sorts the filter without assistance.
- A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has by then closed.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under the throttle, is the moment to stop arranging long drives and book it in.
Signs the vehicle has been showing you
The light is belated news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have usually been growing for a while:
- less power, particularly pulling uphill
- revs that will not pull the way they always did
- economy that is worse than before
- the stop/start without a word packing in
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
Any one of those, taken alone, is not conclusive. The light beside them points at a full filter.
Why diesel particulate filters block near Cockshoot
Being a rural hamlet, Cockshoot throws up exactly the use a DPF copes with least well. A regeneration needs the time and heat, and sees not much: not on the school run to Sheepscombe Primary School, not on Beech Lane at half past eight, not on five minutes to Tesco, and not on the hop to Stroud. What should burn away stays put.
Neither is a long way from Cockshoot: under 5 miles to the M5, under 10 miles to Gloucester. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the run that would empty a filter simply never gets made.
The moment a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode is. Pulling power is capped, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter requires can no longer run — which is the real difficulty, because a long drive works by triggering that regeneration.
Taking it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it works right up to a line. The far side of that line — limp mode — driving will not be enough, and the filter requires a clean.
On-site DPF cleaning where the car stands across Cockshoot
Most owners do not anticipate this detail: the filter remains. The job happens with the DPF yet fixed to the motor — on your drive, in a work car park, wherever the vehicle can sit for a while.
Nothing is touched until other faults are cleared. That involves a diagnostic first: running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by mass, and a review of the sensor readings, glow plugs and associated components.
Then comes the clean itself: solution in through the vehicle's own access port, expanding inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration will not. A second pass is sometimes required on severely clogged filters.
Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has loosened. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of Cockshoot; if not, statically where the motor stands, with the running data verified afterwards.
Then a second scan, proving the change, resetting the warning light and noting anything still showing. Both read-outs are emailed over, so the before and after figures are on record.
Where a clean is not the solution
Treatment fixes one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- a pressure or temperature sensor flagging a blockage that is not there
- an EGR valve jammed open
- an AdBlue system problem
- glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration starting whatsoever
- oil working through the filter from a faulty turbo
Finding that out is the first scan's purpose. Proving to be one of them means hearing it before the work begins, not after paying anything.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is exchanged: the filter you have is cleared where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it hollowed out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth bearing in mind.
DPF cleaning costs around Cockshoot
Every visit attracts a call-out charge — getting to you, setting up the booking, running the check and giving the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.
Once we have what you run, and broadly what the filter will need, the number gets agreed by phone. A single price for every job would not be honest. A pair of things shift it: what you drive, and where you are — Cockshoot itself, out at Jacks Green, or farther out across the GL postcode area.
Where the diagnostic says cleaning will not help, you are not charged for a clean. What still holds is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the check was run and the advice was offered.
The clean includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to Cockshoot if the light comes back inside that window.
Igor came out and spotted the issue as soon as he lifted the bonnet, lovely knowledgeable lad. Couldn't fault the company in any way. Booking was efficient, phone call to say when arriving, aftercare brilliant too.
Great prompt service. Fixed my issue within the hour. Yes expensive at £458 but I was on the road and my van running again. Value for money.
Professional service. Sorted the problem out left me a breakdown of potential problems on the vehicle so pre-emptying future issues. Thank you.
Vehicles we clean, and where we travel round Cockshoot
One on-site service covers cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is done on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.
Our engineers are along Beech Lane nearly every week, so Cockshoot is hardly ever a detour, and the same run takes in Jacks Green, Longridge and the villages out past Sheepscombe. Coverage is UK-wide, so further out through Gloucestershire is still worth a phone call, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the calendar rather than the distance.

Questions Cockshoot drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- It can, provided you catch it early enough and limp mode has not begun. That requires motorway speed for a steady stretch, rather than a quick trip to Tesco.
- Broadly how long does it take?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a severely blocked filter can require cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- What does it come to around Cockshoot?
- The call-out charge takes in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; the clean itself begins from £299. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why pricing happens by phone.
- Must I be around in person?
- No. The vehicle wants a spot to sit for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be done as a supervised drive instead.
- Travelling to Cockshoot — how soon?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is free across the GL area.
- Is the filter taken off the vehicle?
- It is cleaned where it stands, on the call-out service. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- Suppose the light returns?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Cockshoot.
