Cocking, West Sussex: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Cleaning the DPF happens at the car, not at a body shop. No garage, no filter leaving. A technician comes to your place over in Cocking, clears the diesel particulate filter where it is, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.
The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean opens from £299, and the figure is settled by the phone before anyone sets off.
Most drivers find us with the light already on, and the motor short of power. That is the position this page is written for.
Your DPF light is on — what then?
It may not be the DPF at all. That is the main thing. That light can follow a number of faults, not just one, so the visit opens with a scan and not with treatment.
The motoring you manage in the meantime counts. That is the second thing.
- Worth a go before you ring anything: amber light, motor driving as normal, just one constant run, no outlay.
- A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has already shut.
- Stop booking long drives and get it checked if the car smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you press on.
Before the light, what the car was warning you
The light is late news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have generally been growing for some time:
- pulling uphill, the power tails off
- revs that will not rise the way they always did
- fuel use that is worse than it used to be
- the stop/start without a word packing in
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gears
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not proof. With the light beside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
The reason diesel particulate filters choke near Cocking
The motoring that belongs to a rural village like Cocking is the worst sort for a DPF. A regeneration wants time and heat, and gets not much: not on the school run to Midhurst CofE Primary School, not on Bell Lane at half past eight, not on a few minutes to Co-op Food, and not on the dash to Fishbourne. What should burn away remains.
The Waterlooville Bypass stands under 15 miles from Cocking, Chichester under 10 miles off, and unless something takes you out that way regularly, entire weeks slip past without the sustained run that scours a filter. Geography does not assist.
The moment a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode is. Pulling power is held down, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter wants can not complete — which is the entire problem, because a long drive works by triggering that regeneration.
Sound advice, that motorway run — right up until the moment it is not. Once the motor is in limp mode you are the far side of that point, and the filter wants cleaning rather than driving.
The car stays in place for call-out DPF cleaning in Cocking
Nothing comes off the car. That catches out people. The DPF stays fitted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, anywhere it can wait for a few hours.
A diagnostic goes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by mass, and a check of the sensors, glow plugs and connected components, so other faults are eliminated before anything is touched.
After that comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the vehicle's own access port, opening out inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration will not. A second pass is sometimes called for on heavily blocked filters.
Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has loosened. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Cocking; if not, in place where the car sits, with the live data read once done.
Then a second diagnostic, confirming the change, resetting the warning light and listing anything still outstanding. Both read-outs are emailed, so the before and after figures are kept.
When a DPF clean is not the answer
A clean answers one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- a temperature or pressure sensor reporting a restriction that is not there
- a failed EGR valve
- an AdBlue system fault
- a regeneration that simply never starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
Which is why the check goes first. Where it is found to be one of those, you are told before any work starts rather than after you have paid anything.
Two things more worth knowing. Having the filter cut out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a working DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your existing filter is cleared in place and sent back into use.
The cost for DPF cleaning across Cocking
A call-out charge stands whatever happens, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice offered. Treatment itself starts from £299.
No single flat rate would be honest, so the price is agreed by the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. The place you are counts as much as what you run: Cocking itself, Bepton nearby, or otherwise out across the GU postcode area.
If the diagnostic rules a clean out, there is no charge to pay for it. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have been done, the call-out charge still applies.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer heads back to Cocking.
Nic turned up ran through everything, explained very well and carried out the job professionally, very very pleased with what he has done and really nice chap to talk too of if I need anything else I'll 100% be in touch thanks to him. John.
Igor was very professional in both his manner and how he successfully carried out the treatment-I've got my Car back!!
The engineer Andrea's was very efficient. Nothing was a problem. I don't think my van has driven so well since I have had it. Very pleased. Thank you.
Where we reach round Cocking, and what we clean
Whatever it is — car, van, light commercial, heavy goods vehicle, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the very same mobile service stands, and the filter never departs it.
Cocking is rarely a special trip: engineers are along Bell Lane week in week out, and the same run takes in Bepton, Hoyle and the spots out past Heyshott. Phone anyway from further out around West Sussex. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the slot you are given hangs on the schedule rather than how far away you are.

Things Cocking drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive sort it?
- If you spot it early, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. Five minutes to Co-op Food and back will not manage it; motorway speed, held for a stretch, will.
- Does the visit take long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A severely blocked filter can require a second clean, which adds to that.
- Around Cocking, what does it come to?
- Cleaning starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the check and the advice. Settling it is done by phone, since what you own and where you sit both move the price.
- Have I have to be around?
- You need not stand with it — the car simply needs space to sit for a couple of hours. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be run as a supervised drive instead.
- How soon can someone travel to Cocking?
- That depends on the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is open across the GU area.
- Is the filter taken off the vehicle?
- Cleaned where it is, on this service, so no. Neither getting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light returns?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Cocking.
