Cock Alley, Derbyshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Call-out DPF cleaning comes to the vehicle. No body shop, no filter coming off. A technician comes to your door in Cock Alley, treats the diesel particulate filter where it is, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you arrived with.
The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean opens from £299, and the price is fixed over the phone before anyone leaves.
Most drivers find us with the light already on, and the vehicle down on power. That is the position this page is meant for.
What to do when the DPF light is on
It may not be the DPF at all. That is the opening thing. Treatment is not where a visit begins. A diagnostic is — a number of faults appear as the same light.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then counts.
- Car still driving as normal on an amber light — attempt a long constant run first. It costs nothing at all and regularly sorts the filter without help.
- That window has gone once the motor has fallen into limp mode. Driving will not do it now.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under the throttle, is the point to stop booking long drives and call.
The vehicle has been telling you already
The light is late news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have generally been growing for some time:
- less power, particularly climbing uphill
- an engine whose revs will not climb as they should
- economy that is worse than it used to be
- a stop/start that has silently given up
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
On its own, none of that is proof. The light alongside them indicates a loaded filter.
Why diesel particulate filters block near Cock Alley
Cock Alley is a rural village, and the day-to-day driving that comes with one is the least kind kind for a DPF. A regeneration needs time and heat, and has neither: not on the school run to Calow CofE VC Primary School, not on Dark Lane at the morning rush, not on five minutes to The Co-operative Food, and not on the run to Chesterfield. The unburnt soot builds up rather than burning off.
The M1 sits under 3 miles from Cock Alley, Sheffield under 15 miles off, and unless something pulls you out that way regularly, whole weeks slip past without the long steady run that empties a DPF. Geography does not assist.
The moment a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
Limp mode is the motor looking after itself. A long drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode prevents: power held down, revs held down, no regeneration available.
Taking it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it stands right up to a line. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are the far side of that stage, and the filter needs treatment rather than road work.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is cleaned across Cock Alley
Nothing is taken from the car. That surprises people. The DPF remains fixed where it is and the work goes on around it, on a drive, in a works car park, anywhere it can stand for a couple of hours.
Nothing is started until other faults are ruled out. That requires a check first: live data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by weight, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected parts.
Then the cleaning. A solution goes in through the access port on that motor and expands inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never budge. Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to need doing twice.
What the clean has loosened is then driven off by a regeneration. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Cock Alley, with you there, or it is done where the motor sits and the running data is read afterwards.
A second check proves the change, puts out the warning light and notes anything still showing. Both read-outs are sent over, so you have the before and after figures on record.
Where cleaning is not the fix
One thing is what treatment fixes — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:
- pressure or temperature sensors reporting a blockage that is not there
- a jammed EGR valve
- the AdBlue system playing up
- a regeneration that never runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
That is what the first diagnostic is for. You are let know before the work gets going, not after you have settled up, where it turns out to be one of those.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is swapped: the filter you have is treated where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it cut out a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth knowing.
The figure of DPF cleaning in Cock Alley
A call-out charge stands whatever happens, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice given. The clean itself starts from £299.
Naming a flat rate would not be straight. We fix it by phone, once the motor and its probable needs are clear. The motor moves it, and so does the postcode — Cock Alley, Bolehill, or a spot farther out in the S postcode area.
Cleaning that will not do it is not cleaning you pay for, and the check is what says so. You still pay that charge: someone came out, did the diagnostic and passed on you the advice.
If the light returns inside that period, an engineer travels back out to Cock Alley — the clean includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare.
Brilliant company! Highly recommend! came out to us next day! Paid an upfront fee over the phone which was reasonable and they didn't even charge us for the outstanding balance due to a damage DPF. Such lovely people, honest, reliable, trustworthy professional company would definitely use/recommend. Thanks again Guys.
Liam came to the House next day, incredibly helpful bloke, talked me through everything and how to stop the DPF blocking up in the future. Well worth the money, saved me loads of problems, highly recommend these guys.
Liam the engineer was very professional at all times and knew his job well everything explained and all good van goes like a dream maybe do another 100,000 miles.

What Cock Alley drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough by itself?
- Sometimes, if you spot it early and the motor has not slipped into limp mode. Fifteen minutes to The Co-operative Food and back will not do it; motorway speed, kept for a while, will.
- Does the visit take long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a badly blocked filter can require cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- In Cock Alley, what does it cost?
- The call-out charge takes in the visit, the check and the advice; treatment itself begins from £299. Pricing is done by phone, since what you run and where you live both shift the price.
- Is it needed for me to be around?
- The car needs a space for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. Ride along if you like, and the regeneration becomes a supervised drive.
- Can someone come to Cock Alley soon?
- You are offered often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the diary. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the S area has free.
- The filter — does it leave the car?
- Treated where it is, on this service, so no. Getting a filter off or bolting one back on count as anything work we do either way.
- Suppose the light returns?
- Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Cock Alley.
