Before the light, what the vehicle was warning you
Symptoms have usually been mounting for some time before the light ever shows. Last news, in other words:
- power tailing off, above all climbing uphill
- you find the revs never reach where they used to go
- fuel consumption going worse
- a stop/start that has meekly bowed out
- the cabin smelling of diesel, or smoke when you press on
Any one of those, taken alone, is not conclusive. Next to the light, it is a fair guess the filter is loaded.
The reason diesel particulate filters block near Cilau
