- Amber light, car yet driving normally — a long steady run can still sort it on its own. Costs nothing at all, and worth attempting before you call anything.

- Stop arranging long drives and get it seen to if the car smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.
The motor has been showing you already
Symptoms have generally been mounting for a while before the light even appears. Late news, in other words:
- pulling uphill, the power tails off
- revs that will not rise the way they once did
- worse fuel use
- a stop/start that has silently bowed out
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gears
By itself, none of that is conclusive. It is a fair guess the filter is full once the light is there too.

Cil-geraint is a rural hamlet, and the motoring that belongs to one is the worst type for a DPF. - turbo problems, with oil getting into the filter
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's purpose. If it turns out to be one of those, you are let know before any work begins rather than after you have paid for it.
DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is swapped: the filter you own is cleaned where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it hollowed out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth knowing.
