Before the light, what the motor was showing you
Symptoms have normally been mounting for weeks before the light so much as shows. Late news, in other words:
- dropping away on power, above all uphill
- you notice the revs never reach where they always went
- worse fuel consumption
- a stop/start that has quietly given up
- the car stinking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
None of that is evidence by itself. It is a fair guess the filter is full once the light is on as well.
What clogs diesel particulate filters around Chyvarloe
For a DPF, the worst motoring is the sort you get around a coastal area such as Chyvarloe.
