The light is last news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have normally been growing for some time:
- power dropping away, above all going uphill
- you notice the revs never reach where they used to go
- the fuel economy is worse
- a stop/start that has silently bowed out
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in there
That is not conclusive by itself. The light beside them suggests a blocked filter.
