Mobile DPF Cleaning across Chirnside and Scottish Borders
Treating the DPF is done at the car, not at a body shop. No body shop, no filter going anywhere. An engineer travels to your place over in Chirnside, clears the diesel particulate filter where it is, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you came with.
You'll be given a number by phone before anyone goes, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.
The light is showing and the car is down on power — that is how we normally meet people, and roughly what this page is about.
Your DPF light is lit — what then?
First thing: it is not always the DPF. Treatment is not where a visit opens. A check is — a number of faults register as the same light.
The driving you get in the meantime matters. That is the other thing.
- Amber light, car still driving as normal — a long constant run can even now sort it on its own. Costs zero, and worth attempting before you ring anything.
- Once the car is in limp mode, driving will not touch it. The window has shut.
- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under the throttle, is the moment to stop planning long drives and ring.
Before the light, what the motor was showing you
The light is last news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have usually been growing for a while:
- power dropping away, especially pulling uphill
- an engine whose revs will not climb as before
- the fuel economy is poorer
- quietly, the stop/start bows out
- the cabin reeking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
By itself, none of that is proof. Next to the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is full.
The cause diesel particulate filters block around Chirnside
Being a rural village, Chirnside throws up exactly the motoring a DPF copes with least well. A regeneration needs long enough and heat, and gets not much: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on Dominies Loan at the morning rush, not on a few minutes to The Co-operative Food, and not on the dash to Reston. What should burn off stays behind.
The map does not assist either. The M8 is under 50 miles from Chirnside and Edinburgh is under 50 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way routinely, entire weeks slip past without the long unbroken run that would empty the filter by itself.
The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
The motor is protecting itself, which is what limp mode means. Pulling power is held down, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter wants can not run — which is the whole problem, because a long drive works by starting that regeneration.
The usual advice — run it up the motorway — is good, right until it is not. Beyond that stage — limp mode — road work will not be enough, and the filter needs a clean.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is treated in Chirnside
On your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the car can wait for a few hours: the job is done with the filter yet bolted on, which is the bit most drivers do not anticipate.
The ECU is read first, giving soot load by proportion and by mass, along with a review of sensors, glow plugs and associated hardware, so nothing is touched while another fault is still possible.
Then the treatment. A cleaning fluid is injected through the access point on that car and expands inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never shift. Badly clogged filters sometimes need a second pass.
A regeneration follows, clearing what the clean has loosened. If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Chirnside; if not, statically where the motor stands, with the real-time data read after.
A second diagnostic confirms the change, puts out the warning light and lists anything still outstanding. Both read-outs are emailed, so you keep the before and after figures on record.
What a DPF clean will not touch
Only one fault is cured by a clean: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does little for:
- sensors, temperature or pressure, reporting a restriction that is not real
- the EGR valve jammed open
- AdBlue system faults
- failed glow plugs or injectors, so never a regeneration ever runs
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
That is what the first diagnostic is for. You are warned before the work begins, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.
Two more worth knowing. Leaving the filter cut out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your own filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use.
DPF cleaning charges around Chirnside
The cleaning opens from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that follows.
Once we have what you drive, and roughly what the filter will want, the number gets fixed by phone. A single price for every job would not be truthful. What you drive and where you are both move it: Chirnside itself, across at Chirnsidebridge, or farther out across the TD postcode area.
A clean that will not do it is not treatment you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. You still pay that charge: someone came out, carried out the scan and gave you the advice.
A 30-day warranty covers aftercare on the work, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Chirnside if the light comes back inside the period.
Logan fixed my problem quickly and efficiently. I was very impressed with him and DPF Fixer. I will recommend the company in future.
Couldn't be more happier awesome service straight to your front door. Baz you legend thanks so much for your help today you solved all my issues. Money well spent.
Good service! They cleaned up my DPF and fault diagnosed 2 other issues. I went and ordered a new glow plug relay and air mass sensor. Replaced on arrival. cleared the faults with an OBD and voila! All lights out and my van now runs like a stallion! Happy days.
What we clean, and how far we travel around Chirnside
The filter is treated on the vehicle on all of them: cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is carried anywhere.
Chirnside is hardly ever a special trip: technicians are working Dominies Loan most weeks, and the same run covers Chirnsidebridge, West Foulden and the villages out past Edrom. Coverage reaches UK-wide, so farther out through Scottish Borders is even so worth a phone call, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the schedule rather than the distance.

Questions Chirnside drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- If you get it in time, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. That calls for motorway speed for a sustained stretch, rather than a quick trip to The Co-operative Food.
- Does the visit run long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A severely loaded filter can take a second clean, which extends that.
- What does it cost in Chirnside?
- Beginning from £299, with a charge for the call-out that covers the scan and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both change the figure, so we price on the phone.
- Must I be around in person?
- No. The motor needs space to stand for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. Preferring to be there is no problem: the regeneration then runs out on the move, monitored.
- How soon can someone travel to Chirnside?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is now in the diary. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is open across the TD area.
- Does the filter come away from the vehicle?
- It is treated where it sits, on the mobile service. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- An engineer heads back out to Chirnside — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
