Charvil, Berkshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Mobile DPF cleaning comes to the car. The engineer pulls up at your door across Charvil and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned on the motor, a DPF regeneration follows, and you end up with the filter you started with.
Reckon on the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean opens from £299, fixed over the phone before anyone sets off.
Written for the state most owners are in: the light on already, the motor short for power, and the job still to arrange.
DPF light on? What comes next
The unit is not automatically what is at fault, and that comes first. Plenty of faults put the very same light on the very same panel, which is why a visit starts with a scan rather than with treatment.
The use you manage in the meantime tells. That is the second thing.
- Worth a shot before you book anything: amber light, vehicle driving as normal, just one even run, no charge.
- Motor already dropped into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not shift it now.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under acceleration — stop arranging long drives and get it looked at.
The vehicle has been showing you already
The light is late news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have usually been building for some time:
- less power, above all going uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they used to
- fuel use going worse
- a stop/start that has meekly bowed out
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell inside
That is not conclusive on its own. Alongside the light beside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
Why diesel particulate filters clog near Charvil
Charvil is a village, and the day-to-day driving that comes with one is the worst type for a DPF. Think about a normal week: Polehampton Church of England Infant School and home again, Park View Drive South at a standstill before half nine, a short hop to Waitrose, a dash to Twyford. None of it there lasts long enough or gets hot enough to finish a regeneration. Instead of burning off, the soot banks up.
Unless you have a routine cause to head out to the A329(M), under 3 miles from Charvil, or across to Oxford under 25 miles away, whole weeks pass without a long steady run. Geography is unhelpful.
Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration
The car is protecting itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. Output is capped, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter requires can never run — which is the whole catch, because a sustained drive works by triggering that regeneration.
The usual advice — get it up the motorway — is good, until it is not. The filter wants cleaning rather than driving once the car has slipped into limp mode.
Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is done across Charvil
Most drivers do not expect this bit: the filter stays put. The job takes place with the DPF still fitted to the motor — on your drive, in a work car park, any place the car can sit for a while.
A check goes first — live data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by actual weight, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and associated parts, so other faults are cleared before anything is touched.
Then the cleaning. A cleaning solution is fed in through the entry point on that motor and expands inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never shift. Where the filter is heavily loaded, plan on a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has lifted. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Charvil, with you along, or it runs where the car stands and the live data is checked once done.
Both sets of figures are sent by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second scan is what verifies the change, resets the light and notes whatever is still showing.
When a DPF clean is not the answer
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing treatment cures. It will not touch:
- the wrong figure from a pressure or temperature sensor
- an EGR valve stuck open
- an AdBlue system problem
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration completing at all
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
That is what the first check is for. Where it turns out to be one of those, you are warned before any work starts rather than after you have handed over a penny.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no solution. What gets looked up as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your own filter is treated in place and goes back into work.
The figure for DPF cleaning around Charvil
Any visit attracts a call-out charge — coming out to you, making the booking, running the check and offering the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
The price is agreed over the phone, once we know the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. No flat rate could be honest. Whereabouts you are counts as much as what you run: Charvil itself, Twyford nearby, or farther out within the RG postcode area.
You are not asked to pay for cleaning that the scan says will not help. What nonetheless holds is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the diagnostic was run and the advice was given.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer comes back to Charvil.
Arrived at my address and carried out all work needed in a very professional manner, informing me at every stage what he was doing, he respected my property and vehicle all the way through, would highly recommended this employee and this company, kind regards Alan and Susan Rhodes.
Dan was fabulous and courteous. He did mention before the clean that the DPF was nearly empty and it was up to me still go ahead with the clean. The clean was performed and the number did improve. Great advice and prompt service. Highly recommended.
Done with efficiency and professionalism. Will recommend. Peter was very friendly and easy to talk to. Very professional. Very happy customer.
Vehicles we clean, and where we reach around Charvil
Cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, farm vehicles — one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done where it sits rather than moved anywhere.
Charvil is hardly ever a special trip: engineers are working Park View Drive South nearly every week, and the same run covers Twyford, Ruscombe and the spots out past Sonning. Further out through Berkshire is still worth phoning about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that settles between one day and the next.

Questions Charvil drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough alone?
- It might, provided you spot it in time and limp mode has not arrived. A long run at motorway speed is what it takes — not fifteen minutes or so to Waitrose and back.
- How long does the visit last?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily clogged filter can need a second clean, which adds to that.
- Cost in Charvil — what is it?
- Starting from £299, with a charge for coming out that pays for the diagnostic and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why pricing is done by phone.
- Is it essential for me to be present?
- Somewhere for the vehicle to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. Wanting to be there is fine: the regeneration then goes out on the move, monitored.
- How soon can someone get to Charvil?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is typical. Phone 0303 330 1830 what is open across the RG area.
- The filter — does it come away from the car?
- Done where it sits, on this service, so no. We do not take filters off or fit them back on, either way.
- What if the light comes back?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer returning to Charvil.
