Mobile DPF Cleaning around Chard and Somerset

Cleaning the DPF is done at the car, not at a garage. The fitter pulls up at your address in Chard and starts. The diesel particulate filter is treated on the vehicle, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you end up with the filter you started with.

The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the number is settled on the phone before anyone travels.

If the light is on already and the vehicle is short of power, this page is for you. That is how most owners get to us.

DPF light on? What happens next

First thing: it is not always the DPF. A number of faults put the identical light on the identical dash, which is why a visit begins with a check rather than with cleaning.

How the motor is handled in the meantime makes a difference too.

  • Worth a go before you book anything: amber light, car driving fine, just one constant run, no charge.
  • Motor already fallen into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not touch it now.
  • Stop booking long drives and get it seen to if the interior reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.

Before the light, what the vehicle was warning you

The light is belated news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have generally been growing for some time:

  • dropping away on power, above all uphill
  • the revs no longer rise the way they used to
  • fuel use that is worse than before
  • stop/start quietly giving up
  • the cabin reeking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate

That is not evidence on its own. Next to the light, it is a fair bet the filter is full.

What chokes diesel particulate filters round Chard

For a DPF, the poorest motoring is the type you get around a town such as Chard. The school run to Manor Court Community Primary School, Holyrood Street at a standstill at the morning rush, ten minutes to Sainsbury's, the hop to Axminster — none of it goes on long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. Soot that should burn away builds up instead.

Neither is far from Chard: under 10 miles to the M5, under 50 miles to Exeter. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the drive that would clear a filter never gets made.

DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode stops it

The motor is looking after itself, which is what limp mode means. With pulling power capped and the revs held, the regeneration the filter needs can never run at all. That counts, because starting one is exactly what a sustained run does.

Good advice, that motorway run — right up until the moment it is not. The filter requires a clean rather than more driving once the motor has dropped into limp mode.

Cleaning a clogged diesel particulate filter across Chard, Somerset

DPF cleaning at the car round Chard

On your driveway, in a work car park, wherever the vehicle can wait for a couple of hours: the job takes place with the filter still bolted on, which is the part most drivers do not see coming.

Nothing is touched until other faults are ruled out. That requires a check first: running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by actual weight, and a review of the sensor readings, glow plugs and related components.

Then the treatment. A cleaning fluid goes in through the entry point on that vehicle and opens out inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. Where the filter is badly loaded, plan on a second pass.

Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has lifted. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Chard, with you there, or it is done where the car stands and the live data is checked after.

Then a second check, confirming the change, putting out the warning light and logging anything still showing. Both sets of figures are sent over, so the before and after figures are kept.

The faults a DPF clean cannot fix

Treatment answers one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does little for:

  • the wrong reading from a temperature or pressure sensor
  • a stuck-open EGR valve
  • a failure in the AdBlue system
  • glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration starting at all
  • a turbo pushing oil through the filter

That is what the first diagnostic is for. You are let know before the work gets going, not after you have paid, where it turns out to be one of those.

Cutting the filter out is not a solution: without a functioning DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the wording people type in, though nothing is exchanged — your existing filter is treated in place and sent back into use. Two more worth noting.

DPF cleaning charges across Chard

The treatment begins from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that comes with it.

Once we are told what you own, and broadly what the filter will take, the figure gets agreed over phone. A single price for every job would not be truthful. The vehicle moves it, and so does the postcode — Chard, Furnham, or somewhere further out in the TA postcode area.

Cleaning that will not help is not cleaning you pay for, and the scan is what says so. What nonetheless applies is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the diagnostic was carried out and the advice was given.

Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer returns to Chard.

What we clean, and how far we go around Chard

The filter is treated on the vehicle on all of them: private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.

The same round that keeps technicians on Holyrood Street most weeks picks up Chard, Furnham, Cuttifords Door and the spots beyond Wadeford. Call anyway from even further out through Somerset. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the slot you are offered comes down to the calendar rather than how far away you are.

The ground around Chard

Chard is a town located in the county of Somerset in England, situated inland. It is a distinct entity from the vegetable of the same name, which is known for its edible leaves. The town of Chard has its own unique character, separate from the plant that shares its name. Chard is a part of the English countryside, with its own history and features.

What Chard drivers want to know about DPF cleaning

Does a long run sort it?
Early enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. That calls for motorway speed for a steady run, rather than a brief trip to Sainsbury's.
The visit takes how long?
Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is badly blocked.
Cost in Chard — what is it?
Starting from £299, with a charge for travelling that takes in the scan and advice on what to do next. Quoting is done by phone, since what you own and where you sit both move the figure.
Is it essential for me to be around?
You need not stand with it — the motor only wants space to wait for a couple of hours. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be done as a watched drive instead.
Getting to Chard — how soon?
It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is now in the calendar. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is available across the TA area.
Will the filter be removed?
Done where it is, on this service, so no. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
The light comes back — then what?
Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Chard.
