- dropping away on power, above all uphill
- an engine whose revs will not rise as before
- the fuel use is down
- a stop/start that has silently given up
- the car stinking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate
None of that is proof by itself. It is a fair guess the filter is loaded once the light is showing too.
The reason diesel particulate filters choke round Cei-bach
Being a rural hamlet, Cei-bach generates exactly the motoring a DPF copes with the poorest. - the wrong figure from a temperature or pressure sensor
- the EGR valve held open
- the AdBlue system failing
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration completing at all
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
Finding that out is the first scan's whole job. You are let know before any work begins, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.
A couple more worth noting. Leaving the filter cut out is not a fix — a vehicle without a functioning DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your original filter is cleared in place and sent back into use.
