Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Carbis, Cornwall

With on-site DPF cleaning, we drive out to the car. Your motor is not taken away and the filter doesn't budge. A fitter turns up at your address across Carbis, treats the diesel particulate filter still on the motor and carries out a DPF regeneration.

Nobody sets off until the price is fixed over the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.

Most people find us with the light showing, and the vehicle low on power. That is the position this page is written for.

Your DPF light is on — what next?

First thing: it is not always the filter. A check happens before all work, because that same dashboard light has several possible faults behind it.

The driving you do in the meantime matters. That is the other thing.

  • Motor even now driving as normal on an amber light — attempt a long constant run first. It costs zero and frequently sorts the filter without assistance.
  • That window has closed once the motor has fallen into limp mode. Motoring will not do it now.
  • Get it seen to rather than using it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on acceleration, has gone past the long-run stage.

What the vehicle has been warning you

Symptoms have generally been building for some time before the light even arrives. Late news, in other words:

  • climbing uphill, the power drops away
  • an engine whose revs will not rise as before
  • worse fuel use
  • the stop/start quietly giving up
  • a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under the throttle

That is not evidence by itself. It is a fair assumption the filter is full once the light is on as well.

What clogs diesel particulate filters round Carbis

Carbis is a rural hamlet, and the driving that belongs to one is the least kind type for a DPF. A regeneration needs the time and heat, and gets neither: not on the school run to Roche Community Primary School, not on Roche Road at the morning rush, not on five minutes to Co-op Food, and not on the hop to Bugle. The soot collects rather than burning away.

Neither is distant from Carbis: over 50 miles to the M5, under 15 miles to Truro. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the run that would clear a filter simply never gets made.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops working

Limp mode is the motor defending itself. A proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode rules out: power capped, revs kept low, no regeneration possible.

So the common advice to get it up the motorway is sensible advice, right until the day it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that stage: a clean is what will help, not more road work.

Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is done in Carbis

On your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the car can wait for a few hours: the job takes place with the filter yet fixed on, which is the part most drivers do not see coming.

First a check. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a mass, the sensors, the glow plugs, the connected hardware — all of it read before anything is started.

Then comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the motor's own access port, opening out inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration will not. Heavily loaded filters sometimes require a second pass.

Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has lifted. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Carbis, with you along, or it goes where the vehicle stands and the running data is checked after.

Then a second diagnostic, verifying the change, putting out the warning light and logging anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so the before and after figures are recorded.

What a DPF clean will not fix

One thing is what treatment answers — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does little for:

  • the wrong figure from a temperature sensor
  • the EGR valve jammed open
  • an AdBlue system problem
  • glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration starting in the first place
  • the turbo putting oil into the filter

Finding that out is the first diagnostic's job. If it turns out to be one of those, you are let know before any work gets going rather than after you have paid a penny.

Hollowing the filter out is not a solution: without a functioning DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is against the law. DPF renewal is the term people type in, though nothing is replaced — your existing filter is cleared in place and sent back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.

DPF cleaning prices across Carbis

Treatment starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.

Naming a flat rate would not be straight. We fix it on the phone, once the vehicle and its likely needs are known. What you drive and where you are both move it: Carbis itself, over at Woon, or otherwise out across the PL postcode area.

Where the check says cleaning will not help, you are not asked to pay for cleaning. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have been done, the call-out charge still applies.

Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer comes back to Carbis.

DPF cleaning carried out at a vehicle in Carbis

Excellent service provided by DPF Fixer. They checked the computer system and cleaned the catalytic converter. After they reset and took readings to show improvements. An excellent service provided. Would recommend this company.

Liam came to the House next day, incredibly helpful bloke, talked me through everything and how to stop the DPF blocking up in the future. Well worth the money, saved me loads of problems, highly recommend these guys.

Stumped!!

Good service. Daniel was very efficient and knowledgeable. The dpf is now completely clean. Down from 200% to zero. Would recommend.

Where we travel round Carbis, and what we clean

The filter is done on the vehicle on all of them: cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.

Nearly every week there is already someone on Roche Road, so Carbis seldom means a special trip, and Woon, Trebilcock and the spots past Trezaise come with it. Call anyway from farther out through Cornwall. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the date you are given hangs on the calendar rather than how far away you are.

What Carbis drivers want to know about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive clear it?
Sometimes, if you spot it early and the motor has not fallen into limp mode. Five minutes to Co-op Food and back will not manage it; motorway speed, held for a stretch, will.
About how long does it take?
Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is heavily loaded.
In Carbis, what does it come to?
The call-out charge pays for the visit, the check and the advice; treatment itself begins from £299. We settle it on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the price.
Do I have to be there?
A spot for the motor to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. The regeneration can be carried out as a monitored drive if you would prefer to be there.
When can someone get to Carbis?
That comes down to the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the PL area has free.
Does the filter come away from the motor?
It is done where it stands, on the mobile service. We will not get filters off or fit them back on, in either direction.
What if the light reappears?
Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Carbis.
