Symptoms have normally been growing for weeks before the light ever appears. Last news, in other words:
- tailing off on power, above all uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they once did
- fuel use that is worse than it used to be
- quietly, the stop/start packs in
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under the throttle
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not evidence. Alongside the light beside them, the filter is a fair bet.
