Camus Inas, Highland: Mobile DPF Cleaning

With call-out DPF cleaning, we drive out to the vehicle. No workshop, no filter going anywhere. A fitter comes to your place across Camus Inas, cleans the diesel particulate filter where it is, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.

Budget for the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean opens from £299, fixed by the phone before anyone leaves.

The light is already on and the motor is down on power — that is how we normally find people, and precisely what this page deals with.

What to do when the DPF light comes on

Not the filter, necessarily. First thing to get straight. That light can arise from several faults, not just one, so the visit opens with a check and not with treatment.

The driving you manage in the meantime counts. That is the other thing.

  • Car even now driving as normal on an amber light — attempt a long even run first. It costs zero and often shifts the filter without help.
  • Motor already dropped into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not shift it now.
  • Stop arranging long drives and get it checked if the car smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.

Before the light, what the motor was warning you

The light is late news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have normally been building for weeks:

  • power falling off, especially pulling uphill
  • revs that will not rise the way they once did
  • fuel use going worse
  • a stop/start that has silently packed in
  • a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under hard acceleration

Any one of those, taken singly, is not proof. Alongside the light, it is a fair guess the filter is full.

Blocked diesel particulate filters around Camus Inas, and the reason

Camus Inas is a rural hamlet, and the day-to-day driving that comes with one is the poorest type for a DPF. The school run to the local primary school, B8007 at a crawl at the morning rush, a few minutes to the local shops, the dash to the nearest station — not one bit of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. What should burn off stays behind.

Save when you have a routine need to drive out to the M8, over 50 miles from Camus Inas, or over to Inverness over 50 miles away, whole weeks pass without a sustained stint. Geography is no help.

The point a DPF regeneration can no longer run

What limp mode means is the vehicle looking after itself. The real problem is that a proper drive works by setting off a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not pull and power is capped.

Running it up the motorway is the standard advice, and it works right up to a line. The filter needs a clean rather than road work once the car has gone into limp mode.

Call-out DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands across Camus Inas

Nothing leaves the car. That catches out people. The DPF remains fixed where it is and the work happens around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can stand for a couple of hours.

A check comes first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by actual weight, and a review of the sensors, glow plugs and connected parts, so other faults are ruled out before a thing is touched.

Then the cleaning. A cleaning fluid goes in through the access port on that motor and expands inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never move. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to need doing twice.

Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean freed. Come with the vehicle and it becomes a monitored drive out of Camus Inas. Park it and the regeneration goes statically, with live data read once it is done.

Finally the check runs again — the change verified, the light reset, anything still open noted. Both read-outs come to you by email, so the numbers are kept.

Where treatment is not the solution

A clean cures one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:

  • a pressure sensor reporting a blockage that is not there
  • an EGR valve jammed open
  • an AdBlue system failure
  • a regeneration that hardly ever completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • the turbo putting oil into the filter

Which is why the scan comes first. Proving to be one of them means learning it before the work gets going, not after paying for it.

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no solution. What gets typed in as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your filter is cleaned in place and goes back into work.

The cost of DPF cleaning in Camus Inas

Every visit takes a call-out charge — coming out to you, making the booking, carrying out the scan and offering the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.

No flat rate would be straight, so the number is fixed on the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. What you run and where you are both shift it: Camus Inas itself, out at Laga, or otherwise out across the PH postcode area.

Cleaning that will not do it is not treatment you pay for, and the scan is what says so. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone travelled, ran the check and offered you the advice.

Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer comes back to Camus Inas.

Where we travel near Camus Inas, and what we clean

The filter is cleaned on the vehicle on all of them: cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.

Camus Inas is seldom a special trip: our engineers are working B8007 nearly every week, and the same run picks up Laga, Glenborrodale and the villages out past Salen. It is the diary, not the distance, that settles whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage runs UK-wide — so ring still from farther out across Highland.

Questions Camus Inas drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Can I merely take it for a long drive?
Sometimes, if you catch it in time and the vehicle has not dropped into limp mode. Fifteen minutes to the local shops and back will not do it; motorway speed, kept for some time, will.
How long does the visit take?
That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily loaded filter can require cleaning twice, which adds time.
How much does it run to around Camus Inas?
The call-out charge takes in the visit, the scan and the advice; treatment itself begins from £299. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why pricing happens by phone.
Must I be there in person?
The car needs a place for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. Ride along if you would rather, and the regeneration turns into a supervised drive.
How soon can someone come to Camus Inas?
It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 what is available across the PH area.
The filter — does it come away from the motor?
On the mobile service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
The light reappears — then what?
Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer returning to Camus Inas.
