Cambridge, Cambridgeshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Sorting the DPF happens at the vehicle, not at a body shop. An engineer comes at your address over in Cambridge, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the vehicle, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you came with.
Nobody travels until the number is fixed on the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
The light is on already and the car is short of power — that is how we generally come across people, and precisely what this page covers.
What to do when the DPF light shows
It might not be the DPF at all. That is the main thing. A diagnostic comes before the cleaning, because that same dash light has plenty of possible faults behind it.
It counts what you get with the motor between now and the booking.
- A long steady run may yet manage it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle drives as normal. Costs nothing at all, so attempt that before calling.
- That window has shut once the car has dropped into limp mode. A drive will not do it now.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration, is the point to stop booking long drives and call.
The vehicle has been showing you already
By the time the light arrives, things have usually been going wrong for a while. It is last news:
- climbing uphill, the power falls off
- an engine whose revs will not climb as before
- worse fuel consumption
- quietly, the stop/start bows out
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under hard acceleration
That is not proof by itself. The light alongside them points at a blocked filter.
The cause diesel particulate filters choke around Cambridge
Cambridge is a city, and the motoring that belongs to one is the poorest kind for a DPF. The school run to Park Street CofE Primary School, Guildhall Street at a halt at half past eight, ten minutes to Oseyo, the hop to the nearest station — none of it runs long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. Unburnt soot that should burn off collects instead.
Where you sit does not oblige either. The M11 is under 3 miles from Cambridge and Ely is under 15 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way routinely, weeks pass without the sustained run that would empty the filter on its own.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode kills it
Limp mode is the vehicle protecting itself. The whole difficulty is that a sustained drive works by triggering a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not rise and power is held down.
Getting it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it holds up to a line. The filter requires treatment rather than road work once the motor has slipped into limp mode.
Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is cleaned round Cambridge
The filter does not budge. That is the part most owners do not see coming: the job happens with the DPF still fixed to the motor, on your drive, in a work car park, wherever the car can wait for a while.
The ECU is read first, giving soot load by proportion and by weight, along with a check of sensors, glow plugs and connected hardware, so nothing is touched while another fault is still open.
Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never move are lifted next, by a cleaning solution put through the access point on that vehicle, which spreads inside the filter. Badly blocked filters sometimes require a second pass.
A regeneration is next, driving off what the clean has lifted. Either it runs as a monitored drive out of Cambridge, with you present, or it runs where the car stands and the live data is read afterwards.
Finally the scan runs again — the change confirmed, the light reset, anything still open logged. Both read-outs come to you by email, so the numbers are kept.
What a DPF clean will not cure
A clean fixes one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- sensors, pressure or temperature, reporting a blockage that is not real
- EGR valves that stick open
- an AdBlue system fault
- glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration running in the first place
- turbo problems, with oil entering the filter
That is what the first scan is for. Turning out to be one of them means hearing it before any work gets going, not after handing over for it.
DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is replaced: the filter you already own is treated where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it gutted a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth bearing in mind.
What DPF cleaning runs to in Cambridge
Every visit carries a call-out charge — coming out to you, making the booking, running the scan and offering the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
No flat rate would be truthful, so the figure is settled over the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. Two things move it: what you drive, and where you are — Cambridge itself, out at Newnham Croft, or farther out within the CB postcode area.
If the diagnostic writes cleaning out, there is nothing to pay for it. Because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge even so applies.
If the light comes back inside that time, an engineer heads back out to Cambridge — the job includes a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.
Temur arrived the same day and sorted out the dog issue. cleaned and regenerated. very quick and competent. would highly recommend. first class service.
Exceptional service, Logan was polite and personable. Explained the process and aftercare clearly, ensuring that everything was in order before asking for payment and leaving.
Excellent service came to my home address was polite and explained the process then got on with the job.
What we clean, and how far we reach around Cambridge
The filter is cleaned where it sits on all of them: cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is carried anywhere.
Cambridge is seldom a special trip: our engineers are along Guildhall Street most weeks, and the same run takes in Newnham Croft, Newnham and the villages out past Grantchester. Even further out through Cambridgeshire is nonetheless worth phoning about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that decides between today and tomorrow.
The area around Cambridge
Cambridge is a historic city situated in the east of England, on the banks of the River Cam. It serves as the main town of Cambridgeshire, with a rich past that spans thousands of years. Cambridge has developed from a significant centre of trade and commerce in ancient times to a thriving urban area. The city's scenic riverside setting adds to its charm and character.
Things Cambridge drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I simply take it for a long drive?
- If you get it in time, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. That calls for motorway speed for a long spell, rather than a brief trip to Oseyo.
- How long does the visit take?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is badly clogged.
- Around Cambridge, what does it cost?
- Beginning from £299, with a charge for travelling that covers the diagnostic and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why quoting happens by phone.
- Do I have to be around?
- No. The motor requires a spot to sit for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. The regeneration can be done as a watched drive if you would rather be there.
- How soon can someone travel to Cambridge?
- That comes down to the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is free across the CB area.
- Will the filter be removed?
- Not on the on-site service — it is done where it is. Neither taking a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light returns?
- An engineer heads back out to Cambridge — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
