Mobile DPF Cleaning around Calloose, Cornwall

With on-site DPF cleaning, we travel to the motor. An engineer turns up at your address in Calloose, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the car, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.

Allow for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean opens from £299, agreed over the phone before anyone travels.

The light is showing and the motor is down on power — that is how we generally find people, and what this page covers.

What to try when the DPF light shows

Not the DPF, necessarily. First thing to say. A diagnostic comes before any cleaning, because that same dashboard light has several possible faults behind it.

Second thing: how you handle it between now and then counts.

  • Vehicle yet driving as normal on an amber light — attempt a long even run first. It costs nothing and regularly clears the filter without a visit.
  • That window has shut once the motor has slipped into limp mode. A drive will not do it now.
  • Stop arranging long drives and get it checked if the interior stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you press on.

What the motor has been showing you

Late news, the light. The symptoms tend to build for a while before it shows:

  • going uphill, the power falls off
  • the revs no longer climb the way they once did
  • fuel use that is worse than it was
  • stop/start silently packing in
  • smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car

On its own, none of that is evidence. Alongside the light with them, the filter is a fair assumption.

The cause diesel particulate filters choke near Calloose

The motoring that comes with a rural hamlet like Calloose is the poorest kind for a DPF. Look at a typical week: Leedstown Community Primary School and home, Trenerth Road at a halt before nine, a five-minute run to Trevaskis Farm Market, a run to Hayle. Not much there lasts long enough or runs hot enough to complete a regeneration. The unburnt soot collects rather than burning away.

Neither is distant from Calloose: over 50 miles to the M5, under 25 miles to Truro. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the drive that would empty a filter hardly ever comes.

Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration

Limp mode is the motor protecting itself. The entire problem is that a sustained drive works by triggering a regeneration, and once in limp mode the revs will not climb and power is capped.

So the standard advice to get it up the motorway is good advice, up until the day it is not. The filter needs cleaning rather than road work once the motor has gone into limp mode.

A blocked DPF treated across Calloose, Cornwall

Where the car stands is where the DPF is cleaned in Calloose

Nothing is taken from the motor. That throws people. The DPF stays fitted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, any place it can wait for two hours or so.

The ECU is interrogated first, giving soot load by percentage and by actual weight, along with a check of sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected parts, so nothing is cleaned while another fault is still in play.

Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never move are freed second, by a cleaning solution put through the entry point on that motor, which expands inside the filter. Where the filter is heavily blocked, allow for a second pass.

Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has freed. Come with the motor and it becomes a monitored drive out of Calloose. Drop it and the regeneration goes on the spot, with real-time data checked once it is done.

Both reports go over by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second diagnostic is what proves the change, clears the light and notes whatever is still showing.

The problems a DPF clean cannot cure

A clean answers one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:

  • sensors, pressure, reporting a restriction that is not real
  • the EGR valve stuck open
  • an AdBlue system failure
  • a regeneration that hardly ever completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • oil coming through the filter from a faulty turbo

Finding that out is the first diagnostic's purpose. You are told before any work gets going, not after you have settled up, should it turns out to be one of those.

A couple more worth noting. Leaving the filter hollowed out is not a fix — a vehicle without a working DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your original filter is cleaned in place and sent back into use.

What DPF cleaning comes to in Calloose

The cleaning starts from £299. A call-out charge covers every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that follows.

No flat rate would be honest, so the figure is fixed over the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. Whereabouts you are tells as much as what you run: Calloose itself, Carzise next door, or further out across the TR postcode area.

A clean that will not do it is not cleaning you pay for, and the check is what says so. You still pay that charge: someone came out, carried out the scan and passed on you the advice.

The job includes a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Calloose if the light reappears inside that period.

I would highly recommend, Balazs the technicians, was very polite and just got on with the job. The engine light has gone and dpf filter cleaned. All paper work of the results and test provided, Great job.

Zoltan arrived as expected and got on with job, no time wasting. Whatever he did has worked and the fault has been rectified. A nice young man a credit to your company.

Margaret S.

Fantastic service, extremely quick at coming out. The engineer was absolutely brilliant, showed me all the fault codes and explained everything. Highly recommended.

Vehicles we clean, and where we reach around Calloose

Cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery, agricultural vehicles — one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done in place rather than taken anywhere.

Most weeks there is usually someone on Trenerth Road, so Calloose rarely means a detour, and Carzise, Fraddam and the places past Leedstown come with it. Coverage is UK-wide, so further out across Cornwall is even so worth a phone call, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

Things Calloose drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Can I just take it for a long drive?
It might, provided you catch it early and limp mode has not begun. A steady run at motorway speed is what it needs — not ten minutes or so to Trevaskis Farm Market and back.
Does the visit take long?
It is typically around 2 hours. A severely clogged filter can require a second clean, which lengthens that.
Cost around Calloose — what is it?
Beginning from £299, with a charge for travelling that covers the check and advice on what to do next. Quoting is done by phone, since what you own and where you are both change the figure.
Have I have to be around?
You need not stand with it — the vehicle just requires a spot to sit for a couple of hours. Come along if you prefer, and the regeneration becomes a monitored drive.
When can someone get to Calloose?
It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the calendar. Ask 0303 330 1830 what is free across the TR area.
Is the filter removed from the vehicle?
On the mobile service, no: the filter is treated in place. We do not get filters off or bolt them back on, in either direction.
And if the light returns?
An engineer heads back out to Calloose — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
