Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Cackle Street, East Sussex
On-site DPF cleaning comes to the motor. No body shop, no filter going anywhere. A fitter drives out to your door in Cackle Street, cleans the diesel particulate filter as it sits, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you arrived with.
The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean opens from £299, and the price is agreed on the phone before anyone sets off.
Most owners find us with the light already on, and the car low on power. That is the situation this page is written for.
DPF light on? What comes next
First thing: it is not necessarily the filter. A diagnostic goes before the cleaning, because that same dashboard light has plenty of likely faults behind it.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then makes a difference.
- A long constant run may even now be enough, provided the light is amber and the motor goes as normal. Costs nothing, so have a go at that before ringing.
- Car already dropped into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not reach it now.
- A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under acceleration, is the point to stop planning long drives and call.
Signs the motor has been showing you
The light is belated news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have generally been growing for a while:
- falling off on power, especially uphill
- revs that will not pull the way they always did
- the fuel consumption is poorer
- a stop/start that has quietly given up
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under the throttle
None of that is proof on its own. The light with them suggests a blocked filter.
Why diesel particulate filters clog around Cackle Street
For a DPF, the least kind motoring is the type you find around a rural village such as Cackle Street. The school run to Brede Primary School, St. Mary's Close at a crawl at the morning rush, a few minutes to Sainsbury's, the hop to Doleham — not one bit of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. The soot banks up rather than burning off.
Except when you have a standing need to drive out to the M20, under 25 miles from Cackle Street, or out to Canterbury under 50 miles away, weeks pass without a sustained stint. Geography is unhelpful.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
The motor is defending itself, which is what limp mode is. With power held down and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter requires can never happen at all. That counts, because starting one is exactly what a motorway run does.
So the standard advice to run it up the motorway is sensible advice, up until it is not. Beyond that stage — limp mode — road work will not manage it, and the filter needs a clean.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is done in Cackle Street
On your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the vehicle can stand for a few hours: the job is done with the filter even now bolted on, which is the part most drivers do not anticipate.
A diagnostic happens first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by weight, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected hardware, so other faults are cleared before any of it is started.
Then comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the motor's own access port, spreading inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration cannot. Where the filter is heavily blocked, allow for a second pass.
A regeneration follows, clearing what the clean has freed. Stay with the vehicle and it turns into a monitored drive out of Cackle Street. Park it and the regeneration goes on the spot, with real-time data verified once it is done.
A second scan proves the change, resets the warning light and notes anything still outstanding. Both read-outs are emailed, so you end up with the before and after figures to hand.
Where cleaning is not the answer
Cleaning cures one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- sensors, pressure, flagging a block that is not real
- a stuck-open EGR valve
- a problem in the AdBlue system
- a regeneration that never runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
- a turbo putting oil through the filter
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's purpose. You are let know before all work begins, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.
DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is exchanged: the filter you own is treated where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it gutted a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth knowing.
Figures for DPF cleaning across Cackle Street
A call-out charge holds whatever happens, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice passed on. Cleaning itself starts from £299.
Once we know what you drive, and broadly what the filter will take, the figure gets settled on the phone. A single price for all would not be honest. What you own and where you are both move it: Cackle Street itself, across at Brede, or farther out in the TN postcode area.
You are not charged for treatment that the scan says will not help. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge still applies.
If the light reappears inside that period, an engineer comes back out to Cackle Street — the work comes with a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.
Andras was very knowledgeable and professional in rectifying the problem with the DPF on my Range Rover Vouge Autobiography, which also involved replacing a throttle assembly.

The vehicles we clean and the ground we reach round Cackle Street
Private cars, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery, agricultural vehicles — the one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done on the vehicle rather than carried anywhere.
Nearly every week there is usually someone on St. Mary's Close, so Cackle Street rarely means a special trip, and Brede, Broad Oak and the villages past Westfield follow. It is the schedule, not the distance, that picks whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so ring still from further out across East Sussex.

What Cackle Street drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough alone?
- Soon enough, and with the vehicle out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. Five minutes to Sainsbury's and back will not manage it; motorway speed, held for a while, will.
- The visit lasts how long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a severely loaded filter can need cleaning twice, which adds time.
- What does it cost around Cackle Street?
- Opening from £299, with a charge for the call-out that pays for the scan and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both change the number, so we quote on the phone.
- Is it necessary for me to be there?
- No. The vehicle requires somewhere to stand for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be done as a monitored drive instead.
- How soon can someone get to Cackle Street?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the calendar. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is free across the TN area.
- Will the filter be taken off?
- Done where it is, on this service, so no. Neither taking a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- The light returns — then what?
- An engineer travels back out to Cackle Street — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
