Burry, Swansea: Mobile DPF Cleaning

With on-site DPF cleaning, we drive out to the car. No workshop, no filter going anywhere. A technician travels to your door over in Burry, clears the diesel particulate filter in place, performs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.

Nobody sets off until the number is agreed on the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.

The light is showing and the car is down on power — that is how we generally find people, and precisely what this page covers.

What to do when the DPF light shows

Not the DPF, automatically. Opening thing to note. A clean is not where a visit begins. A check is — plenty of faults show up as the same light.

The motoring you do in the meantime matters. That is the next thing.

  • Worth a go before you ring anything: amber light, car driving as normal, just one steady run, no outlay.
  • That window has closed once the vehicle has dropped into limp mode. Motoring will not get there now.
  • A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under acceleration, is the stage to stop arranging long drives and book it in.

Signs the motor has been sending you

Symptoms have generally been growing for a while before the light so much as appears. Belated news, in other words:

  • dropping away on power, above all uphill
  • you see the revs fall short of where they once went
  • consumption that is worse than it used to be
  • stop/start quietly bowing out
  • a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under hard acceleration

On its own, none of that is conclusive. Next to the light beside them, the filter is a fair assumption.

Why diesel particulate filters block round Burry

The motoring that belongs to a rural hamlet like Burry is the least kind type for a DPF. The school run to the local primary school, Robins Lane at a crawl at half eight, five minutes to The Village Shop, the dash to Llanelli — nothing of it lasts long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. What should clear remains.

The map does not oblige either. The M4 is under 15 miles from Burry and Swansea is under 15 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way routinely, entire weeks slip past without the long unbroken run that might scour the filter on its own.

The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer complete

The vehicle is protecting itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. Pulling power is capped, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter wants can never complete — which is the entire difficulty, because a proper drive works by setting off that regeneration.

Running it up the motorway is the standard advice, and it holds up to a limit. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are the far side of that stage, and the filter wants a clean rather than more driving.

A blocked DPF cleaned across Burry, Swansea

Where the motor stands is where the DPF is cleaned across Burry

On your front, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can sit for a couple of hours: the job takes place with the filter yet fixed on, which is the part most drivers do not expect.

First a scan. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a mass, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the associated hardware — all of it logged before any of it is cleaned.

After that comes the clean itself: solution in through the car's own access port, opening out inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration never can. Heavily loaded filters sometimes take a second pass.

A regeneration is next, driving off what the clean has lifted. That is a monitored drive out of Burry if you are present, or a static regeneration where the car sits, with the live data read after.

Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change verified, the light cleared, anything still outstanding logged. Both reports arrive with you by email, so the numbers are kept.

Where a clean is not the answer

One thing is what treatment fixes — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:

  • pressure sensors showing a blockage that is not there
  • EGR valves that jam open
  • an AdBlue system failure
  • a regeneration that simply never runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • the turbo passing oil into the filter

The first scan is there for exactly that. Transpiring to be one of them means hearing it before work gets going, not after settling up a penny.

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter hollowed out fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no fix. What gets typed in as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your own filter is treated in place and goes back into work.

Figures for DPF cleaning in Burry

Treatment begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.

Quoting a flat rate would not be straight. We agree it over phone, once the motor and its probable needs are established. Where you are matters as much as what you drive: Burry itself, Knelston nearby, or farther out across the SA postcode area.

If the scan rules a clean out, there is not a penny to pay for it. You still pay that charge: someone turned up, ran the diagnostic and gave you the advice.

Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer comes back to Burry.

Excellent service from mobile DPF cleaner. Booked around lunchtime, then a same day service, albeit quite late in the evening by the time the mechanic arrived! However, he got the job done, and advised me of what else was needed to ensure that I didn't have any recurrence.

Where we get to round Burry, and what we clean

The filter is done where it sits on all of them: cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is taken anywhere.

Burry is hardly ever a special trip: our engineers are working Robins Lane week in week out, and the same run picks up Knelston, Reynoldston and the spots out past Scurlage. Further out through Swansea is nonetheless worth a call — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the calendar rather than the distance that picks between one day and the next.

Burry itself

Burry is a small coastal hamlet in Swansea, situated near the coast at an elevation of 32 metres. Burry lies approximately 12 miles west of Swansea and is characterised by detached housing. Burry is close to other small settlements such as Burry Green and Frog Moor, and is part of a wider rural area that includes Llanddewi.

Things Burry drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive clear it?
Sometimes, if you get it in time and the car has not fallen into limp mode. It needs a long run at motorway speed, not five minutes flat to The Village Shop and back.
The visit lasts how long?
It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily blocked filter can require a second clean, which extends that.
The cost in Burry — what is it?
It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both change the figure, so we price on the phone.
Do I have to be around?
You need not stand with it — the motor only wants a spot to wait for a couple of hours. The regeneration can be done as a supervised drive if you would rather be there.
How soon can someone travel to Burry?
Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is normal. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will know what the SA area has free.
Will the filter be taken off?
On the on-site service, no: the filter is done in place. Nor does taking a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
Suppose the light reappears?
An engineer travels back out to Burry — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
