Burn, North Yorkshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
On-site DPF cleaning goes to the car. Your car isn't taken anywhere and the filter doesn't leave it. An engineer arrives at your address over in Burn, treats the diesel particulate filter still on the car and runs a DPF regeneration.
Nobody leaves until the figure is fixed by the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
If the light is already on and the motor is low on power, this page is the right one. That is how most owners arrive here.
The DPF light is on. What now?
The filter is not automatically what is at fault, and that comes first. That light can come from plenty of faults, not only one, so the visit starts with a check and not with cleaning.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then matters.
- Car yet driving fine on an amber light — try a long constant run first. It costs zero and frequently sorts the filter without help.
- That window has gone once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. Driving will not do it now.
- Stop planning long drives and get it checked if the interior reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.
Signs the car has been giving you
The light is belated news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have normally been growing for some time:
- pulling uphill, the power drops away
- you notice the revs stop short of where they always went
- fuel use that is worse than it used to be
- the stop/start silently packing in
- the cabin smelling of diesel, or smoke when you pull away
Any one of those, taken alone, is not conclusive. Alongside the light alongside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
Clogged diesel particulate filters near Burn, and the cause
Being a village, Burn throws up precisely the motoring a DPF copes with least well. Not one bit of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration: the school run to Brayton Church of England Primary School, Park Lane barely moving at half past eight, five minutes to Lidl, the dash to Selby. What should burn away stays behind.
Where you sit does not help either. The M62 is under 5 miles from Burn and York is under 15 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way regularly, entire weeks slip past without the long steady run that might clear the filter alone.
The moment a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode is. Output is held down, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter needs can no longer happen — which is the whole catch, because a long drive works by triggering that regeneration.
Running it up the motorway is the common advice, and it stands up to a point. Past that line — limp mode — more driving will not do it, and the filter requires a clean.
The vehicle stays where it is for call-out DPF cleaning in Burn
Nothing leaves the car. That catches out people. The DPF sits bolted where it is and the work is done around it, on a drive, in a works car park, wherever it can wait for two hours or so.
A scan comes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by mass, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and related hardware, so other faults are ruled out before a thing is touched.
After that comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the car's own entry point, spreading inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration cannot. Severely loaded filters sometimes take a second pass.
What the clean has freed is then cleared by a regeneration. That is a monitored drive out of Burn if you are there, or a static regeneration where the motor waits, with the live data verified after.
A second scan proves the change, clears the warning light and lists anything still showing. Both reports are emailed over, so you keep the before and after figures on record.
What a DPF clean will not fix
One thing is what cleaning cures — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does little for:
- a pressure sensor reporting a restriction that is not there
- a stuck-open EGR valve
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration running whatsoever
- oil coming through the filter from a failing turbo
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's whole job. When one of those is the fault, you find out about it in advance rather than once the money has left altogether.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no remedy. What gets searched for as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your filter is cleared in place and goes back into work.
Prices for DPF cleaning across Burn
The treatment starts from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that comes with it.
Naming a flat rate would not be truthful. We agree it on the phone, once the vehicle and its likely needs are established. The motor shifts it, and so does the postcode — Burn, Brayton, or somewhere otherwise out in the YO postcode area.
You are not charged for cleaning that the diagnostic says will not do it. The call-out charge nonetheless applies, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have been done.
If the light returns inside that period, an engineer heads back out to Burn — the work includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare.
Diaz did a very great job. He gave a detail explanation on what to do after his work and in fact the car is back on its normal performance. Thank you mate.
Great service from Darren. He explained everything this he was doing and answered questions with confidence. Would use them again if I have any troubles again.
Daniel was an outstanding mechanic he went out of his way to help me fix my car would very highly recommend thank you!
What we clean, and how far we reach around Burn
A single mobile service spans private cars, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is cleaned on the vehicle rather than moved anywhere.
Our engineers are along Park Lane most weeks, so Burn is rarely a detour, and the same run takes in Brayton, West Haddlesey and the spots out past Chapel Haddlesey. It is the calendar, not the distance, that decides whether it is this day or the next, and coverage extends UK-wide — so phone anyway from farther out through North Yorkshire.

Common questions on DPF cleaning across Burn
- Is a long drive enough by itself?
- Soon enough, and with the motor out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. It takes a long run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes to Lidl and back.
- Does the visit take long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a badly loaded filter can require cleaning twice, which runs on.
- What does it run to around Burn?
- Cleaning starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the price, so we price on the phone.
- Is it essential for me to be there?
- A spot for the car to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a supervised drive instead.
- Travelling to Burn — how soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the calendar. Ring 0303 330 1830 what is free across the YO area.
- Will the filter be taken off?
- Not on the on-site service — it is treated where it sits. Getting a filter off or putting one back on count as anything work we do whichever way.
- What if the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Burn.
