It may not be the DPF at all. That is the first thing. A number of faults put the same light on the same dash, which is why a visit begins with a check rather than with cleaning.
It matters what you manage with the vehicle between now and the appointment.
- Amber light, vehicle still driving as normal — a long constant run can still shift it alone. Costs nothing, and worth attempting before you book anything.
- A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has by then closed.
- Stop booking long drives and get it seen to if the car stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.
The vehicle has been showing you already
Last news, the light. The symptoms generally build for a while before it arrives:
- less power, above all climbing uphill
- the revs no longer climb the way they once did
- fuel economy going worse
- stop/start silently packing in
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gears
None of that is evidence on its own. It is a fair assumption the filter is loaded once the light is showing too.
The cause diesel particulate filters clog around Buckland
For a DPF, the worst use is the type you get around a residential suburb such as Buckland.
