Mobile DPF Cleaning across Broom, Fife
Cleaning the DPF takes place at the motor, not at a garage. No garage, no filter coming off. A technician comes to your place across Broom, treats the diesel particulate filter as it sits, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you came with.
Nobody leaves until the price is fixed over the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
Most people find us with the light on already, and the car down on power. That is the position this page is aimed at.
The DPF light is on. What now?
The DPF is not automatically what is at fault, and that comes first. That light can come from a number of faults, not just one, so the visit begins with a check and not with cleaning.
Second thing: how you drive it between now and then matters.
- A long even run may yet do it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle runs fine. Costs zero, so have a go at that before booking.
- That window has closed once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. Driving will not get there now.
- Get it seen to rather than driving it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
Signs the vehicle has been showing you
By the time the light arrives, things have normally been slipping for some time. It is late news:
- pulling uphill, the power falls off
- you see the revs fall short of where they used to go
- worse fuel consumption
- silently, the stop/start gives up
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gears
None of that is evidence on its own. Alongside the light, it is a fair guess the filter is blocked.
The explanation diesel particulate filters block around Broom
Broom is a residential suburb, and the day-to-day driving that belongs to one is the poorest kind for a DPF. The school run to the local primary school, Park Avenue at a standstill at half past eight, five minutes to Aldi, the dash to Leven — none of it runs long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. The soot load banks up rather than clearing.
Neither is distant from Broom: under 15 miles to the M90, under 25 miles to Dundee. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the run that would empty a filter never comes.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode kills it
The motor is defending itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. With pulling power limited and the revs held, the regeneration the filter needs cannot happen at all. That counts, because triggering one is just what a sustained run does.
The common advice — get it up the motorway — is sound, right until it is not. The filter wants a clean rather than driving once the vehicle has dropped into limp mode.
Call-out DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands across Broom
Nothing comes off the car. That surprises people. The DPF remains fitted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, anywhere it can wait for a few hours.
A check happens first — running data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by mass, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and related components, so other faults are cleared before a thing is started.
Then the treatment. A cleaning solution is fed in through the entry point on that vehicle and opens out inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never budge. Where the filter is badly clogged, allow for a second pass.
What the clean has freed is then cleared by a regeneration. Come with the vehicle and it turns into a monitored drive out of Broom. Drop it and the regeneration is done statically, with running data verified once it is done.
Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change confirmed, the light put out, anything still showing noted. Both reports reach you by email, so the numbers are on record.
What a DPF clean will not touch
A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing cleaning answers. It will not touch:
- sensors, pressure, showing a block that is not real
- an EGR valve held open
- an AdBlue system fault
- faulty glow plugs or injectors, so never a regeneration ever runs
- the turbo pushing oil into the filter
Finding that out is the first check's whole job. You are warned before the work begins, not after you have settled up, should it turns out to be one of those.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no remedy. What gets typed in as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your existing filter is cleaned in place and goes back into use.
The cost of DPF cleaning around Broom
Treatment starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
Quoting a flat rate would not be honest. We settle it by phone, once the vehicle and its expected needs are established. What you own and where you are both move it: Broom itself, across at Scoonie, or otherwise out across the KY postcode area.
If the scan counts treatment out, there is not a penny to pay for it. The call-out charge nonetheless applies, because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer heads back to Broom.
Liam came to the House next day, incredibly helpful bloke, talked me through everything and how to stop the DPF blocking up in the future. Well worth the money, saved me loads of problems, highly recommend these guys.
Excellent service from Daz Burrows from DPF fixer. Very thorough and care taken to give a full and clear explanation of any problems. Definitely worth the cost for giving me peace of mind.
Baz (the DPF Technician) was absolutely superb; he was knowledgeable, polite and informative. Importantly he cleaned and restored my DPF such that my car performance returned to normal.
The vehicles we clean and the patch we cover round Broom
Private cars, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery — a single on-site service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is cleaned where it sits rather than carried anywhere.
Broom is rarely a special trip: our engineers are out on Park Avenue most weeks, and the same run takes in Scoonie, Innerleven and the places out past Leven. Coverage is UK-wide, so further out around Fife is even so worth a phone call, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.
The patch around Broom
Broom is a coastal suburban area in Fife, situated near the towns of Leven and Scoonie, with Broom itself lying at an elevation of around 25 metres. Broom is characterized by its semi-detached housing stock and is located close to the shoreline, with Broom residents enjoying views out to sea. Broom is part of the larger network of communities around Dundee, Scotland's fourth-largest city, which is approximately 17 miles away.
Common questions on DPF cleaning in Broom
- Can I just take it for a long drive?
- If you spot it early enough, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. Five minutes to Aldi and back will not do it; motorway speed, held for a stretch, will.
- Does the visit last long?
- Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is severely blocked.
- Across Broom, what does it run to?
- Treatment opens from £299, and the call-out charge on top pays for the visit, the check and the advice. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both move the price.
- Do I have to be present?
- Somewhere for the vehicle to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. The regeneration can be done as a watched drive if you would prefer to ride along.
- Getting to Broom — how soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is now in the diary. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is free across the KY area.
- The filter — does it come away from the car?
- Treated where it sits, on this service, so no. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not work we do.
- What if the light reappears?
- An engineer heads back out to Broom — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
