The first scan is there for exactly that. If it is found to be one of those, you are warned before any work begins rather than after you have paid for it.
A couple more worth knowing. Leaving the filter hollowed out is not a fix — a vehicle without a functioning DPF fails its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your own filter is treated in place and put back into use.
