Breach, West Sussex: Mobile DPF Cleaning

The vehicle remains in place — on-site DPF cleaning goes to it. The fitter turns up at your address in Breach and starts. The diesel particulate filter is cleaned on the motor, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you keep the filter you arrived with.

The visit lasts typically around 2 hours, the clean opens from £299, and the number is fixed over the phone before anyone leaves.

The light is on already and the vehicle is low on power — that is how we generally find people, and what this page covers.

The DPF light is on. What next?

First thing: it is not necessarily the DPF. Several faults put the very same light on the same dashboard, which is why a visit opens with a scan rather than with treatment.

Second thing: how you drive it between now and then makes a difference.

  • Worth a go before you call anything: amber light, vehicle driving as normal, just one constant run, no charge.
  • That window has shut once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. Driving will not help now.
  • A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under acceleration, is the point to stop booking long drives and call.

Signs the motor has been giving you

The light is last news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have generally been mounting for some time:

  • tailing off on power, above all uphill
  • revs that will not pull the way they used to
  • fuel consumption turning worse
  • quietly, the stop/start bows out
  • smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car

Alone, none of that is evidence. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is loaded.

Why diesel particulate filters clog round Breach

Being a residential suburb, Breach generates just the driving a DPF manages least well. A regeneration takes long enough and heat, and sees not much: not on the school run to Southbourne Infant School, not on Mountwood Road at half past eight, not on a few minutes to Co-op Food, and not on the hop to Southbourne. The soot collects rather than burning away.

The A3(M) stands under 5 miles from Breach, Chichester under 10 miles off, and unless something carries you out that way often, entire weeks pass without the long unbroken run that empties a filter. Geography does not help.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops working

It is self-protection: that is all limp mode means. With power limited and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter requires can never complete at all. That counts, because triggering one is precisely what a long run does.

Getting it up the motorway is the common advice, and it holds up to a line. In limp mode you are the far side of that stage: a clean is what will do it, not more miles.

On-site DPF cleaning where the motor stands in Breach

Nothing leaves the motor. That throws people. The DPF remains fixed where it is and the work is done around it, on a drive, in a works car park, anywhere it can stand for two hours or so.

The ECU is read first, giving soot load by proportion and by mass, along with a look over of sensors, glow plugs and related hardware, so nothing is cleaned while another fault is still in play.

Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never budge are freed second, by a solution fed through the access port on that vehicle, which spreads inside the filter. A second pass is sometimes required on severely blocked filters.

Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean freed. Stay with the car and it turns into a monitored drive out of Breach. Leave it and the regeneration is done statically, with real-time data checked once it is done.

Both reports are sent by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second scan is what verifies the change, resets the light and notes whatever is still outstanding.

When a DPF clean is not the fix

Cleaning fixes one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does little for:

  • the wrong figure from a temperature sensor
  • an EGR valve stuck open
  • an AdBlue system failure
  • faulty glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever starts
  • oil passing through the filter from a faulty turbo

The first diagnostic is there for exactly that. Transpiring to be one of them means finding out it before work starts, not after paying anything.

DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is swapped: the filter you already own is treated where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it hollowed out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth noting.

What DPF cleaning costs in Breach

A call-out charge holds whatever happens, and pays for the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice offered. The clean itself begins from £299.

No single flat rate would be honest, so the price is settled on the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. What you drive and where you are both shift it: Breach itself, across at Inlands, or farther out in the PO postcode area.

A clean that will not do it is not a clean you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. You still pay that charge: someone came out, carried out the check and gave you the advice.

A 30-day warranty covers aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer travelling back out to Breach if the light comes back inside the period.

Where we get to round Breach, and what we clean

A single mobile service spans cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is cleaned on the vehicle rather than carried anywhere.

Technicians are along Mountwood Road nearly every week, so Breach is rarely a journey of its own, and the same run covers Inlands, Prinsted and the places out past Southbourne. Ring anyway from further out across West Sussex. Coverage reaches UK-wide, and the date you are offered depends on the diary rather than how far away you are.

Questions Breach drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Is a long drive enough on its own?
If you get it early enough, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. It takes a long run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes flat to Co-op Food and back.
Does the visit run long?
It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily clogged filter can need a second clean, which adds to that.
Across Breach, what does it come to?
Starting from £299, with a charge for the call-out that pays for the diagnostic and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both change the price, so we settle it on the phone.
Is it essential for me to be around?
Nobody expects you to stand with it — the motor simply wants somewhere to stand for a couple of hours. Choosing to be there is no problem: the regeneration then goes out on the road, monitored.
How soon can someone get to Breach?
That comes down to the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the PO area has available.
Is the filter removed from the motor?
It is treated where it is, on the on-site service. Taking a filter off or bolting one back on count as anything something we do whichever way.
The light reappears — then what?
The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer returning to Breach.
