By the time the light appears, things have usually been going wrong for some time. It is late news:
- power dropping away, especially going uphill
- you notice the revs stop short of where they used to go
- fuel use getting worse
- the stop/start silently packing in
- the cabin smelling of diesel, or smoke when you press on
On its own, none of that is proof. With the light, it is a fair bet the filter is full.
The reason diesel particulate filters block near Bosporthennis
