Mobile DPF Cleaning in Blue Anchor and Somerset

Sorting the DPF takes place at the motor, not at a body shop. A technician arrives at your door over in Blue Anchor, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the vehicle, runs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you arrived with.

The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the number is settled on the phone before anyone leaves.

The light is already on and the vehicle is low on power — that is how we generally find people, and what this page is about.

The DPF light is on. What now?

The DPF is not always what is at fault, and that goes first. That light can follow a number of faults, not only one, so the visit starts with a check and not with treatment.

How the motor is handled in the meantime makes a difference too.

  • Worth a shot before you call anything: amber light, motor driving normally, just one even run, no outlay.
  • A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has now gone.
  • Stop booking long drives and get it seen to if the interior stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.

What the car has been telling you

Symptoms have generally been mounting for some time before the light even arrives. Belated news, in other words:

  • climbing uphill, the power tails off
  • revs that will not pull the way they once did
  • worse fuel use
  • the stop/start without a word bowing out
  • smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell inside

That is not proof alone. Next to the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is blocked.

Why diesel particulate filters block near Blue Anchor

Being a coastal village, Blue Anchor produces precisely the driving a DPF copes with least well. Run through a typical week: Dunster First School and back, Southlands at a halt before the hour, a quick trip to Supermarket Lakeside, a dash to the nearest station. Not much there lasts long enough or gets hot enough to complete a regeneration. The soot collects rather than burning away.

Where you sit does not help either. The M5 is under 25 miles from Blue Anchor and Cardiff is under 25 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way regularly, entire weeks go by without the long unbroken run that might empty the filter alone.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops working

What limp mode amounts to is the car protecting itself. Pulling power is limited, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter needs can never complete — which is the entire difficulty, because a sustained drive works by setting off that regeneration.

The common advice — get it up the motorway — is sound, right until it is not. The filter wants treatment rather than road work once the car has dropped into limp mode.

DPF cleaning at the motor across Blue Anchor

The filter does not leave it. That is the part most drivers do not anticipate: the job is done with the DPF even now fixed to the vehicle, on your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the motor can wait for a couple of hours.

First a check. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a mass, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the associated parts — all of it read before anything is touched.

A cleaning fluid after that is injected through the entry point on that motor, expanding inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never shift. Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to take doing twice.

Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Blue Anchor; if not, on the spot where the motor stands, with the running data read after.

A second scan verifies the change, clears the warning light and logs anything still open. Both read-outs are emailed, so you end up with the before and after figures recorded.

The faults a DPF clean cannot cure

Only one fault is fixed by treatment: the filter choked with ash and soot. It does nothing for:

  • the wrong reading from a temperature sensor
  • EGR valves that hang open
  • AdBlue system failures
  • injectors or glow plugs that prevent a regeneration starting whatsoever
  • turbo problems, with oil entering the filter

Finding that out is the first diagnostic's whole job. Where it proves to be one of those, you are let know before any work gets going rather than after you have settled up for it.

Two things more worth bearing in mind. Leaving the filter cut out is not a fix — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF fails its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your own filter is cleaned in place and returned into use.

The figure for DPF cleaning across Blue Anchor

A call-out charge holds whatever happens, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the scan and the advice given. The clean itself begins from £299.

No flat rate would be honest, so the number is settled over the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. A pair of things change it: what you own, and where you are — Blue Anchor itself, across at Carhampton, or further out across the TA postcode area.

If the scan counts cleaning out, there is nothing to pay for it. Because the visit, the check and the advice have happened, the call-out charge even so stands.

Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer comes back to Blue Anchor.

What we clean, and how far we reach around Blue Anchor

The one on-site service spans cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is treated on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.

Our engineers are along Southlands nearly every week, so Blue Anchor is hardly ever a journey of its own, and the same run covers Carhampton, Bilbrook and the places out past Withycombe. Call anyway from farther out through Somerset. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the slot you are offered hangs on the schedule rather than how far away you are.

Common questions on DPF cleaning in Blue Anchor

Will a long drive shift it?
It might, provided you spot it in time and limp mode has not arrived. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it wants — not ten minutes or so to Supermarket Lakeside and back.
How long does the visit run?
It is typically around 2 hours. A severely clogged filter can take a second clean, which extends that.
How much does it run to around Blue Anchor?
Opening from £299, with a charge for the call-out that takes in the check and advice on what to do next. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both move the price.
Must I be around in person?
No. The car needs a spot to sit for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. The regeneration can be done as a monitored drive if you would prefer to come along.
How soon can someone get to Blue Anchor?
Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is usual. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is available across the TA area.
Will the filter be taken off?
On the mobile service, no: the filter is treated in place. And neither does getting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
The light returns — then what?
An engineer comes back out to Blue Anchor — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
