Mobile DPF Cleaning across Blackthorn, Northamptonshire
With on-site DPF cleaning, we come to the car. The engineer pulls up at your place in Blackthorn and starts. The diesel particulate filter is treated fitted to the car, a DPF regeneration follows, and you keep the filter you started with.
Reckon on the visit running typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, settled by the phone before anyone sets off.
Most people find us with the light on already, and the vehicle short of power. That is exactly what this page is aimed at.
DPF light on? What to do
The DPF is not automatically what is to blame, and that comes first. Treatment is not where a visit begins. A scan is — plenty of faults register as the same signal.
The motoring you get in the meantime matters. That is the other thing.
- A long steady run may still be enough, provided the light is amber and the car runs as normal. Costs zero, so have a go at that before ringing.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, motoring will not touch it. The window has shut.
- Stop planning long drives and get it checked if the cabin reeks of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.
Signs the motor has been sending you
By the time the light arrives, things have normally been slipping for weeks. It is last news:
- power tailing off, particularly climbing uphill
- an engine whose revs will not rise as they should
- worse fuel consumption
- quietly, the stop/start packs in
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell inside
By itself, none of that is conclusive. Alongside the light alongside them, the filter is a fair guess.
Why diesel particulate filters choke round Blackthorn
For a DPF, the least kind driving is the kind you get in a residential suburb such as Blackthorn. Think about a typical week: Blackthorn Primary School and home, Blackthorn Road at a standstill before the hour, a five-minute run to Costcutter, a dash to Northampton. Not much there lasts long enough or runs hot enough to complete a regeneration. Unburnt soot that should clear builds up instead.
Neither is a long way from Blackthorn: under 10 miles to the M1, under 25 miles to Milton Keynes. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the journey that would empty a filter hardly ever happens.
Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration
The motor is looking after itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. The whole difficulty is that a long drive works by setting off a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not pull and power is held down.
The common advice — get it up the motorway — is good, right until it is not. The filter wants cleaning rather than more driving once the vehicle has dropped into limp mode.
DPF cleaning at the motor across Blackthorn
Nothing comes off the car. That catches out people. The DPF remains fitted where it is and the work is done around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, any place it can wait for two hours or so.
Nothing is cleaned until other faults are cleared. That means a check first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by actual weight, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and connected parts.
Next comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the vehicle's own access port, spreading inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration never can. Badly clogged filters sometimes require a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of Blackthorn; if not, on the spot where the vehicle stands, with the live data checked after.
A second check verifies the change, puts out the warning light and lists anything still open. Both read-outs are sent over, so you keep the before and after figures on record.
What a DPF clean will not fix
A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing treatment fixes. It will not help:
- the wrong figure from a temperature or pressure sensor
- EGR valves that jam open
- an AdBlue system fault
- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration running whatsoever
- a turbo passing oil through the filter
Finding that out is the first scan's purpose. You are warned before any work begins, not after you have paid, if it turns out to be one of those.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out will fail its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no solution. What gets searched for as DPF renewal replaces nothing: your own filter is cleared in place and goes back into service.
What DPF cleaning runs to around Blackthorn
Each visit takes a call-out charge — travelling to you, setting up the booking, carrying out the scan and offering the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.
The price is settled by the phone, once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be straight. A pair of things move it: what you drive, and where you are — Blackthorn itself, over at Rectory Farm, or further out across the NN postcode area.
You are not charged for cleaning that the check says will not work. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone came out, did the check and offered you the advice.
A 30-day warranty covers aftercare on the work, and that includes an engineer travelling back out to Blackthorn if the light returns inside the period.
I would highly recommend, Balazs the technicians, was very polite and just got on with the job. The engine light has gone and dpf filter cleaned. All paper work of the results and test provided, Great job.
Nic came out and fixed my dpf and emissions light, did a fantastic job my car is now running full speed again after going into limp mode.
Great service! Engineer came to my address, was very polite and helpful, was honest about the problem I had with my car and gave me all the necessary information.
Where we get to around Blackthorn, and what we clean
The filter is done where it sits on all of them: private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.
Blackthorn is hardly ever a special trip: engineers are working Blackthorn Road nearly every week, and the same run takes in Rectory Farm, Goldings and the places out past Ecton. Call anyway from farther out through Northamptonshire. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the slot you are offered hangs on the calendar rather than how far away you are.

Questions Blackthorn drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive sort it?
- It might, provided you spot it early and limp mode has not arrived. Ten minutes to Costcutter and back will not do it; motorway speed, kept for a while, will.
- How long does the visit last?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — severely clogged filters sometimes need a second pass, which adds to it.
- Across Blackthorn, what does it run to?
- Beginning from £299, with a charge for travelling that takes in the scan and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why pricing happens by phone.
- Have I need to be around?
- No. The motor needs somewhere to stand for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be done as a watched drive instead.
- How soon can someone travel to Blackthorn?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the diary. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is free across the NN area.
- Will the filter be taken off?
- Treated where it is, on this service, so no. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- An engineer comes back out to Blackthorn — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
