Mobile DPF Cleaner

Blacknest, Berkshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

Sorting the DPF is done at the motor, not at a body shop. Your car is not taken away and the filter doesn't come off. A fitter arrives at your place over in Blacknest, clears the diesel particulate filter still on the motor and runs a DPF regeneration.

The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the number is settled on the phone before anyone travels.

The light is showing and the vehicle is low on power — that is how we normally find people, and roughly what this page deals with.

What to try when the DPF light shows

Not the filter, necessarily. Main thing to note. Treatment is not where a visit starts. A diagnostic is — a number of faults register as the same light.

It tells what you do with the vehicle between now and the booking.

  • Amber light, vehicle still driving fine — a long even run can still sort it alone. Costs nothing at all, and worth trying before you book anything.
  • Once the car is in limp mode, driving will not shift it. The window has closed.
  • A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration, is the stage to stop arranging long drives and book it in.

Signs the car has been showing you

The light is late news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have usually been building for a while:

  • pulling uphill, the power tails off
  • revs that will not rise the way they used to
  • fuel economy getting worse
  • the stop/start without a word packing in
  • diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the box

Any one of those, taken by itself, is not evidence. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is blocked.

The explanation diesel particulate filters clog near Blacknest

The driving that goes with a rural hamlet like Blacknest is the poorest sort for a DPF. The school run to Holy Trinity CofE Primary School, Sunningdale, Mill Lane at a halt at half eight, five minutes to Waitrose, the run to Sunningdale — none of it goes on long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. The unburnt soot collects rather than clearing.

Neither is distant from Blacknest: under 3 miles to the M3, under 25 miles to Westminster. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the drive that would clear a filter hardly ever comes.

The point a DPF regeneration can no longer happen

Limp mode is the car defending itself. With power held down and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter requires will not happen at all. That counts, because triggering one is just what a long run does.

The standard advice — get it up the motorway — is sensible, until it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that stage: treatment is what will do it, not more road work.

The clogged filter treated after a warning light in Blacknest, Berkshire

DPF cleaning at the vehicle round Blacknest

Nothing comes off the vehicle. That catches out people. The DPF remains fitted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, wherever it can wait for a few hours.

The ECU is interrogated first, reporting soot load by proportion and by mass, along with a look over of sensor feeds, glow plugs and associated parts, so nothing is started while another fault is still open.

Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never move are loosened after that, by a solution put through the access point on that vehicle, which opens out inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to need doing twice.

A regeneration is next, clearing what the clean has loosened. If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Blacknest; if not, statically where the vehicle stands, with the real-time data read afterwards.

A second scan confirms the change, resets the warning light and logs anything still open. Both sets of figures are emailed, so you have the before and after figures to hand.

The problems a DPF clean cannot fix

Cleaning cures one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does nothing for:

  • a temperature or pressure sensor showing a restriction that is not there
  • an EGR valve jammed open
  • a failure in the AdBlue system
  • injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration running in the first place
  • the turbo putting oil into the filter

Finding that out is the first scan's job. If it is found to be one of those, you are let know before any work begins rather than after you have paid for it.

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out will fail its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no solution. What gets typed in as DPF renewal replaces nothing: your existing filter is cleaned in place and goes back into use.

What DPF cleaning costs in Blacknest

The treatment opens from £299. A call-out charge covers every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that comes with it.

Not one flat rate would be truthful, so the figure is fixed over the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. Two separate things change it: what you own, and where you are — Blacknest itself, across at Tittenhurst, or farther out in the SL postcode area.

If the check counts cleaning out, there is no charge to pay for it. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone came out, ran the diagnostic and offered you the advice.

The clean carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to Blacknest if the light reappears inside that time.

Great communication from the fixer, let me know in advance of his eta and work was done efficiently he then explained what the diagnostics meant, really friendly and helpful, great service.

Managed to clean the DPF in my Range Rover Evoque whilst in limp mode and get it back on the road in 2 hours. Ashley was knowledgeable and did a cracking job.

Logan was a Great honest guy who gave a great service. Arrived on time, explained process and would highly recommend.

Questions Blacknest drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Is a long drive enough by itself?
Sometimes, if you get it in time and the car has not fallen into limp mode. Fifteen minutes to Waitrose and back will not do it; motorway speed, sustained for a stretch, will.
Broadly how long does it last?
Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is severely clogged.
The cost around Blacknest — what is it?
It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Settling it is done by phone, since what you run and where you are both move the price.
Must I be present in person?
The vehicle wants a space for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. Choosing to be there is welcome: the regeneration then is done out on the move, monitored.
Can someone get to Blacknest soon?
It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is free across the SL area.
Is the filter taken off the motor?
It is done where it is, on the call-out service. And neither does taking a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
Suppose the light reappears?
An engineer comes back out to Blacknest — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
